Life & Work with En’Rico Ray

Today we’d like to introduce you to En’Rico Ray.

Hi En’Rico, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is En’Rico Ray and I’m a US Army veteran, photographer, and business owner. I planned to live overseas as a vlogger and Youtuber so I figured I’d better learn some camera skills. I purchased a DSLR camera from a guy on Facebook Marketplace. I asked him if he’d plug me in with local events or shoots so I could practice. Turns out he was very active in the area and put me on to many events where I could hone my skills. I began a partnership with Memphiss Kidd’s Infokusmedia company and Passe Tape, the latter of which is a collective of photographers and videographers in the area. I came on board as a BTS cameraman which stands for ‘behind the scenes’. My job was to get B Roll and behind-the-scenes content for the artists. I eventually started my Instagram page ‘enricofoto’ where I could post my work.

I moved to Downtown Phoenix in the summer of 2020 and fell in love with the local scene. I’d take morning walks to clear my head and take shots of the DTPHX scenery. That’s where I learned that I enjoy street photography. I took a few pointers from another local photographer named Kyle Greenberg and began shooting more of the Downtown Phoenix landscape.

I am now a Downtown Phoenix Ambassador and owner of American Veteran Notary Services, both which allow me to serve the people of Downtown Phoenix and see the beauty in the area.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy road. In learning photography, I had to develop an eye for a great shot, lighting, editing, and confidence in my equipment. I am still learning and see much room for improvement but I am very happy with what I’ve produced so far. Having great mentors along the way has made things much smoother too.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in gathering social media content. Essentially photos to use for posts, videos, calendars, events, and such. I make Downtown Phoenix my focus which allows me to learn the specifics in the area, key businesses, and events to attend. I’d say what sets me apart is my genuine love and interest in the area. Though I’m from Cleveland originally, Phoenix has very much become home to me and Downtown Phoenix has a piece of my heart. I live and work in the community and I want to see it thrive.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I honestly couldn’t say where I see the photography industry going. But what I do know is great content is something you’ll need in a social media-centered environment. Social media isn’t going away any time soon so I believe I’m in the right place and position to grow over the next 10 years.
