Life & Work with Crystal Wheeler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Wheeler.

Hi Crystal, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started LOM Candles at the beginning of the pandemic. I have my own personal training business and covid caused me to take a break from that line of work. Between being cabin crazy from covid isolation, politics, and societal stressors; I decided to take a three months break from social media and the news. I wanted to challenge myself by learning something new and find a new outlet for creativity and LOM Candles was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been exciting and a lesson in learning to be flexible. Since I have to purchase my supplies from several companies, the pandemic has definitely slowed down shipment times significantly. I’ve had to pivot and change directions many times but that’s part of the excitement of running a business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make candles from organic coconut wax, body butter with ingredients sourced from local Tucson business owners, and floral bath salts. I’m really proud of supporting local businesses that help make my business successful. Betts Printing does all of my printing for my labels, business cards, etc. I also get my body butter ingredients from Abyssinian Style, a family-owned Tucson business.

My company is also sustainable. Coconut wax is a very high-yield, renewable, sustainable crop. Every bit of my packaging can also be recycled or up-cycled.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The self-care industry is definitely growing. Especially with the stress of the past year, I feel like people are taking more time out to pamper themselves. Whether that means lighting a candle to unwind, getting a massage or going on a vacation; people are making themselves a priority and I feel that trend will continue.
