Today we’d like to introduce you to B.Taylor.
Hi B.Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child, I was fascinated with the beauty and fashion industry! I religiously collected fashion magazines, like Vogue and Elle. By the age of 14, I realized that I had an “eye” and a talent for makeup.
At that point, I began perfecting my craft. In high school, I was the most sought-after makeup artist.
At dances, proms, and talent shows, I would build a team of other students who shared the same love for makeup to assist me with productions, not realizing that I was molding myself to become the Makeup team leader. I am celebrated for today!
I was able to build clientele and my brand, B.Taylor Makeup with those leadership skills I learned early on. In Philadelphia, I’ve worked with some of the top photographers and creatives in the city, specializing in stage plays like “Incest in the kingdom” and “The pastor’s chambers” by playwright Terra Broaddus, runway shows like Philly fashion week, and small films.
While growing in my career, I realized that I not only had the skill for makeup but ALL things beauty including directing photoshoots, wardrobe, and hair. My company, The Beauty Cartel is an expansion of the B.Taylor brand. My objective is to continue to build and train my own team of beauty professionals. It is my goal to expand the cartel by ensuring that my techniques and core values reflect who we are as a beautiful family.
During my profession, I’ve met other Makeup artists throughout the country that fit my vision for The Cartel. I am contacted by potential clients weekly who are in need of our expertise—and I personally evaluate new cartel members to ensure that the B.Taylor brand standards are upheld during each client’s beauty encounter with us. My most recent move to Arizona was scary!
In a place where I wasn’t familiar with anyone in my industry, I decided to further build my brand. In Arizona, I have worked with the most talented photographers like Julian Diaz, and top designers, like House of Donaldson, while building my own high-end personal clientele. The beauty cartel’s makeup and hair looks were featured in Tempe fashion week 2021, the Arizona trending award show by Don Milliono and Lamark Cole, as well as multiple runways, and fashion shoots throughout the area.
I’ve expanded the cartel in AZ, working with some of its most talented makeup artists. We have also worked with Arizona’s leading production companies, like the nationally published R &R Amore productions, and Red Room studios. Coming this year, The Beauty Cartel will be launching a product line that includes makeup, and hair tools, along with daily planners for beauty professionals designed by me!
We will also be hosting “makeup & sip” a play on the trending “paint & sip” where I’ll be demonstrating my makeup techniques on a live model.
The guest will have their own personalized makeup stations helping them achieve their own professional makeup look. The first will be held in my home town Philadelphia, Then the Phoenix area, followed by other major cities around the country. My goal as the “Don” of the beauty cartel is to become a household name and the “go-to” for beauty needs.
In 2023, we will also be offering a beauty course to train aspiring beauty professionals who want to join our family
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success has bumps. My motto is to keep going and stick to your plan; something that I share with my staff and followers regularly! I moved across the country to Arizona due to an unexpected family tragedy.
Which was a serious bump in my road. I decided to practice what I’ve been preaching and keep moving forward. I’m sticking to my plan where ever life takes me and despite any obstacles that come my way. I’m sharing my story so that others can do the same and achieve their goals.
Reading, journaling, writing down/organizing my vision, and working to master myself daily was the key to my progression. Healing past traumas, building confidence, and sticking to my plan are helping me evolve as I continue on my road to success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Beauty cartel specializes in large bridal parties, runway shows, stage productions, and film.
We work quickly and efficiently. I stand out in this industry because of my strong business acumen and my POSH personality. I treat my team members as family and our clients are always satisfied with the look.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I have a passion for the elevation of Black life. As a black business owner and activist in my community, I have a clear understanding of the obstacles my community faces.
I also understand the importance of my voice and my role in aiding my community. I organize black networking events around the country and have made connections with some of the most influential leaders in the black community like Dr. Umar Johnson of the East Coast, and 19 keys of the west.
My most recent event was held at a black-owned and award-winning restaurant, Loyalty Lounge in Scottsdale, AZ on MLK day this year. Many business owners and creatives in the beauty and fashion industry attended. From that event, multiple entrepreneurs are currently working together, to expand their brands and success— Facilitating that was my proudest moment!
