Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Shreeve, the owner and Equine Director of Saddle Sore LLC
Hi Mindy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Located in San Tan Valley, Saddle Sore LLC [formerly Saddle Sore Ranch] is a family-owned equine facility operated by Mindy Shreeve beginning in 2013. Since graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Mindy had the vision to create and build an all-inclusive equine program. The heart of her program at Saddle Sore focuses on providing Therapeutic Riding with the goal of working positively towards promoting the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of all individuals. It is the mission of Saddle Sore to provide a fun, safe and exciting place to learn the key fundamentals of working with horses. Today, Saddle Sore has grown from a “one-horse” program to a 15 horse herd that services over 50 riders with a spectrum of skills and abilities … from weekly lessons to a progressive Show Team that encourages riders to show off skills while continuing to set future goals. Saddle Sore has grown and evolved into what it is today as the result of a vision for the future combined with the support of volunteers, riders & their families and the community as a whole.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been easy. Programming has had to be adapted to fit the ongoing and often changing needs of Saddle Sore clients. The horses in our herd and their needs are often balanced against the needs of our riders. Expansion at Saddle Sore was accelerated after Mindy met her husband David in 2015. With David’s support Mindy has been able to focus more and more on expanding the Saddle Sore client base while providing lessons and support to a wide range of riders.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets Saddle Sore apart from other equine programs us our Show Team. Our Show Team gives our riders the ability to showcase their skills while continuing to build towards future goals, to compete as indivuduals while supporting their teammates, and to be a member of a community. Our progressive Show Team competes monthly at P&M Arena where riders participate in Gymkhana style competition. Saddle Sore Show Team has always included both therapeutic and typical riders. In 2020, we expanded to include our Mom Squad and Trail Riders.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to Mindy is providing a service to our community of riders who would not otherwise have the experience and opportunity to share her passion and love for horses. To see the feeling of pride and individual successes felt by her riders, often times reflected through her horses, that is why she does what she does.
