Today we’d like to introduce you to Karely Badillo.
Karely, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My entering the entrepreneur world started about two years ago. I had just had my son was ending my six-week maternity leave and getting ready to go back to my corporate job as an insurance claims adjuster (I know boring). I kept thinking to myself there has got to be something more I can do something more fulfilling that will allow me to spend the most amount of time with my son and hubby while doing something I actually like. The fact that I might not be around to witness my son’s first word or first steps literally killed me, I would cry on my way to work knowing someone other than his mommy would care for him.
Then one day, I was scrolling through social media on a late night bottle feeding when I stumbled across a local artist that I had been following that did eyebrow microblading. Now, I had started following her because I myself was interested in getting this service done, but this time her post was about starting a training class to teach other women. The idea sparked in my brain and I said to myself that’s it!! The next day I woke up went to work and my hubby picked me up for lunch that day I told him about my idea and he said go for it your miserable doing what you’re doing.
And without a single hesitation, I signed up for the training class. I remember taking time off my 9-5 to attend my training class. My dad bought me my pigments and my hubby got me all the materials needed to start me off. And from then on, I dove into the microblading world head first and it has quickly become my all-time passion. I just love how fulfilling it is to help make someone feel beautiful and complete. I now have my own little studio in Chandler, AZ that I work out of and have made it my own from the ground up. It is literally crazy to think back from when I first started to now being a fully established business that continues to grow and prosper. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my hubby and families support, they are the ones that step in to care for my son when I have late night appointments or training to attend. Also, to my clients that have trusted me with their face and have referred me to their friends and family that is truly the best compliment I can receive. I am truly blessed and feel extremely grateful to be in an industry I love all while being able to cater to my family which is my #1 priority.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has entrepreneurship been a smooth road!? NO! Being in the entrepreneur world has taught me that nothing comes easy and if something goes wrong it all falls back on you, there is no one else to blame. It’s up to you to stay organized and prepared. I have had my bad days where just want to throw in the towel and call it quits because it’s too hard, but then again, if it were easy then everyone would be doing it right. My good days which are more often than the bad days make me feel like a rockstar! There is nothing better than waking up to an email for a booked appointment or text from a happy client.
It’s sad to say but people are gonna bet on your failure. So, it’s very important to find your tribe and keep them close. Because if your tribe isn’t motivating you and elevating you to be the best you can be, then those people aren’t your people. I have a knit tight circle who I can always count on to inspire and help bring my ideas to life if Im ever stuck.
Stay true to yourself and your vision don’t ever forget where you came from and why you started in the first place. Because if whatever you’re doing is done with a grateful heart, then failure will be non-existent for the challenges that may come up down the road, it will only be learning experiences that you can grow from.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in eyebrow microblading. I just love being able to transform botched 90s brows to fabulous bomb brows! The fact that I can help people with health conditions such as alopecia, chemo patients who have lost their hair, previously permanent cosmetics gone wrong, etc. is so satisfying to me.
Microblading is a form of permanent makeup, where individual hair strokes are tattooed onto your brows. Although it is considered a tattoo, the pigment WILL fade over time. Touch ups are recommended once a year to keep the color and shape looking fresh and crisp! A touch up is required four-eight weeks after the initial session and is considered the “perfecting” session. No brow is complete until the touch up is done! Microblading is the most natural option for those that want more definition and shape, but a “shaded” brow can be done to give them a more filled in look!
Recently, I have also added a new service called Keratin Lash Lift Infusion. Keratin Lash Infusion is not your average lash lift, but rather a Keratin infusion and conditioning treatment that leaves your natural lashes curled, lifted, healthy and shiny. This is the only system that is a true Keratin infusion clinically proven to strengthen and rehydrate your natural lashes making them grow stronger and longer.
Who have you been inspired by?
The woman that have inspired me me growing up I would have to say are my mom and nana. My mom because she has such a forgiving heart, growing up, I wasn’t the easiest of a teenager to deal with, but she loved me still. My mom has taught me patience, love, and upkeep. Growing up, she would always say “I don’t want my kids going to someone else’s house and not know how to care or pick up after themselves.” Because of my mom, I am now a clean freak and know how to sustain a household of my own. Because I am now also a mom, I value my mom even more for the unconditional love that she has always given me.
My nana is someone very special in my life. She is the strongest happiest lady I know. She was able to raise two kids on her own while working in a country where she didn’t even know the language. She has taught me that there is no excuse to not being able to be successful and make something of yourself. If you put in the work, the opportunities are endless. I just hope that one day, I can be the equivalent of my mom and nana. They are my heroes.
