Life and Work with Jillian Salatas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Salatas.

Jillian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a passion for the beauty industry! My journey in becoming a skin therapist has been years in the making. My favorite job was when I worked for Sephora, that was when I was first introduced to skincare and fell in love with all of it. What really pushed me to go to school for esthetics was two years ago when I was trying to detox off birth control. My body went crazy and I ended up with awful, hormonal cystic acne. It was traumatic. You feel different, look different and act differently. That was really my driving force to go to school at Penrose Academy to become an esthetician. I really wanted to help others who were struggling too. It’s my mission to help educate all of my clients and help them overcome it!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, there were struggles along the way. If you read or watch any documentary on those who have had a lot of successes in their lives, there is always failures that lead them to their success. What will set you apart is if you recognize your failures as strength and opportunity to learn and grow. Be thankful for your failures as they will teach you and show you the way to your success. For me, I knew when I started at Penrose Academy to become an esthetician, I wanted to own my own business once receiving my license. In order to do that while I was in school, I worked multiple jobs. I knew once I graduated, I was going to work for myself alongside my sister, who also works in this industry doing lash extensions and brows. In order to have the funds to start my business up on my own, I was up most mornings around 3:30 am and went to bed around 11 pm. You learn to sacrifice things when you are going after a vision you have created for your life. I wish more entrepreneurs would share the setbacks or struggles they overcame because business comes with sacrifices, time, commitment and dedication. If you have the drive, truly anything is possible!

Self-development is key, never stop learning. There are so many ways to learn; listen to podcasts, read books, watch documentaries. There is so much out there, never stop learning! Your mindset will control 99.9% of your business. Staying in a positive mindset, fueling your body with good food and keeping your body moving is also very important. I always say working out is the mindset it takes to run a business- commitment, dedication, showing up and never giving up. My advice is to find a workout you love doing, keep pushing yourself and those healthy habits will carry over into your business. Of course, there are days you will feel off, when you feel like that, you need to adjust your mood back as quick as possible, back to a healthy state of mind, refocus and move forward.

Please tell us about Belleame_Skin.
I’m recently licensed as of February 2019 and started Belleame Skin in March of 2019. My sister and I are located in Glam Studios, Suite 213! We specialize in many services including: custom facials, dermaplaning, microneedling, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, lash lift, lash extension, brows and body waxing. My number one goal is to deliver results and to teach each of my clients something new when they come in! I want them to learn and take something away after each appointment. I want each of them to feel like I am someone they can consolidate in and someone they can talk to. For me, vibes and energy are everything when I walk into any business. I hope that my energy, love, and passion carries through to all my clients. That’s is so very important to me.

“True beauty comes from within always but when you feel good on the inside it radiates on the outside” that my sisters & I motto!

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Absolutely, there were. First off, you have to know that every life experience leads us to where we are meant to be. We must always learn and grow from each of those experiences. I had many different learning disabilities growing up. Despite the challenges that came along with that, I knew I wanted to have my own business one day. At the age of 10, I had my first little business, truly at heart, I’m an entrepreneur. However, it was hard for me to ever think I could run a business and be successful in my life because growing up with learning disabilities, you feel less than.

Being shuffled in and out of classes and being told you learn at a much slower rate; many days, I just felt dumb and stupid. For many years of my life, I doubted that I would ever account for anything great in my life. Then, a few years ago, I realized I had two choices in my life: 1. Choose to become a victim to my circumstances and continue the negative self-talk that I would never account to anything great or 2. Rise above and despite my different obstacles, learn to work around them. I want you to know despite what you think you can’t do, you truly can do it! You can do anything when you believe in yourself and work hard!
