Life and Work with Jen Rogers and Lori Jung

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Rogers and Lori Jung.

Founded by consumer publicist Lori Jung and entertainment publicist and producer Jen Rogers in 2012, Hudson West is the public relations powerhouse behind some of the biggest lifestyle PR campaigns coast-to-coast. The bi-coastal firm, headquartered in Scottsdale with offices in New York, designs and executes effective targeted national and local publicity, marketing, social media and branding campaigns for an exclusive group of clientele. Operating solely on reputation-based referrals for almost seven years, the firm delivers decades of industry knowledge to help bring brands to life. Their client roster consists of major consumer products, TV shows, production companies, entrepreneurs, authors, social justice organizations, and businesses both nationwide and across the Valley.

We currently represent several large consumer product brands like Quartet, Swingline, and Cheribundi. We also concentrate on entertainment publicity recently working with 44 Blue Productions and their broadcast partner Investigation Discovery, and The Paragon Collective out of Los Angeles. Additionally, Hudson West spearheads local Phoenix-based campaigns for social action and non-profit organizations like, the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network, and the National Sikh Campaign.

Jen’s career began in the world of media at Court TV in New York City. During that time she ran her own speaking management company, followed by production and PR positions at Banyan Productions and Krupp Kommunications, respectively. She then got to marry her two passions – television and PR – when she was hired as Unit Publicist for Telepictures Productions. From there she was brought in by Sony Pictures Television where she worked on shows such as “Seinfeld,” “Breaking Bad,” and “Judge Hatchett,” and even became an Emmy-nominated producer in recognition of innovative web strategies. She went on to launch Sony Emmy-winning daytime hit, “The Dr. Oz Show,” produced with Harpo Productions.

Lori’s background is in consumer and lifestyle publicity. She’s spent almost 20 years helping place client’s brands and products in high impact media outlets. For seven years she was the Director at an NYC based PR firm and in 2009 consulted for several start-ups and small businesses. Lori successfully launched, marketed, branded and publicized multiple consumer product lines. She’s placed clients on The Today Show, Food Network, Ellen, in Better Homes & Gardens, Men’s Journal, Real Simple, Martha Stewart Living, The O List, Redbook, Popular Science, Good Housekeeping, Oxygen, GQ, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, USA Today, Thrillist, The Huffington Post, Gizmodo, PopSugar, PureWow, Fatherly, and local TV news stations and newspapers across the country.

Fast forward to 2012 at the Hubbard Family Swim School on 32nd and Thunderbird when we met each other at our daughters’ swim practice! Our girls were both four-months-old at the time and we had both just recently relocated from Manhattan to Scottsdale. Fast forward to 2012. We both had just recently relocated from Manhattan to Scottsdale. We met each other at our daughters’ swim practice at the Hubbard Family Swim School on 32nd and Thunderbird. Both of our girls were four-months-old at the time. Once we realized we were in the same industry, and practically the same neighborhood, things just clicked and we knew we had to start a company together. Combining Jen’s entertainment and broadcast knowledge with Lori’s lifestyle and print media contacts we began pushing clients into the limelight right away beginning with a beauty company, then a local author, followed by a children’s animated TV show. Now in 2019 Hudson West is composed of a staff of seven and runs all aspects of in-depth media and marketing campaigns for our exclusive client roster.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
PR is never an easy job. We always explain to our clients, “Advertising you pay for, publicity you pray for!” as nothing is guaranteed in our world. But we do so much more than pray. We take a vested interest in each and every one of our clients. If we don’t feel passionate about your brand, company or service, we politely pass on the project. As publicists who are constantly trying to convince the media to cover our clients, we know we need an authentic sense of conviction for who we are representing. Our advice for other women starting out in the media and marketing field is always make sure you can get excited about a client before agreeing to a job.

Also, another tip is to never be afraid to pick up the phone. We picked this habit up working in New York City. Too often communication is done through emails and sometimes a pitch can be overlooked or go unseen in a busy newsroom. Pick up the phone and call the person you want to talk with, even if you get a pass on the story you can move on knowing you’ve done your job to the best of your ability.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hudson West Public Relations & Marketing – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We love our work! What makes our team so successful is the culmination of years of experience specializing in our respective fields. Bringing that expertise to the table has allowed us to teach each other new things and give our clients the best service possible. One of the exciting elements of our work at Hudson West is the opportunity to work with a variety of clients from different industries.

What we are most proud of is our teamwork, fire, and determination. When it comes to day-to-day work, it’s insane! From the moment we sit down in the morning to often late into the evenings, we are going non-stop. It is a lot of pitching, client calls, brainstorming, and brand building. What separates us from other firms is that we have a team of seasoned PR professionals representing our clients. Too often, we see large PR firms hand clients off to junior and entry-level staffers. At Hudson West, we are entrepreneurs ourselves and we work extremely hard for our clients, as we know how tough it can be building and maintaining a business.

Who have you been inspired by?
Today, there are so many strong motivational females who encourage our team to grab life and subsequent opportunities by the horns. As entrepreneurs, we’ve personally enjoyed books and lectures by Brené Brown, Rachel Hollis, and even Mario Kondo. In our personal lives, there are several strong women right here in Phoenix who have been a tremendous source of inspiration both in our lives and the lives of our children. Anjleen Kaur Gumer is a dear friend, client, Executive Director of The National Sikh Campaign and an uplifting Sikh awareness advocate. Mental game coach Darleen Santore is the US Ambassador for Global Pay It Forward Day, the world’s largest movement of kindness and of course, Emily Blosser our News Director at Hudson West who has one of the sharpest news-minds in the PR business. Surrounding ourselves with other positive women who help encourage change and challenge us has been a key building block in our business and a major reason we are so successful today.
