Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Dales.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been on a 5-year transformation journey of losing over 140lbs. I not only transformed my body but my mind also. I am now a certified fitness trainer and co-author of my story in a book with Dr. Ona Brown & Les Brown that is to be released this month. After I lost all of the weight, I realized I needed to do more with my new found health and body. Becoming a trainer allows me to help others in the transformation journey.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. I had gastric sleeve surgery in 2014 and have had to learn how to care for my body. The diet and exercise were the easy part – the mental journey was so much tougher. I had to discover who I am and also to learn how to love myself to be able to care for me.
I chose gastric surgery as my tool to start my journey but that may not be a choice for everyone – it is best to enlist your physician to help you chose the best path for you. I will say that most people don’t understand Gastric surgery and think it is an easy fix. It is not! There is only a short window of time to lose as much weight as possible but if you don’t change your brain in that process – you can and will gain it back.
Please tell us about Saved by 5 Fitness.
I work with all types of clients – gastric patients – pre and post-op, I also love working with preteens to teach them early how to care for themselves. I consult on exercise & training as well as nutrition. I love working out with my clients also. I am an independent trainer at a gym in Gilbert or I do in-home training.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well-positioned for?
When you get on a flight and they go through the pre-flight instructions – they tell you to put your mask on before you help others. As women, we are so amazing and strong and help others all the time. Sometimes we forget we have to care for ourselves also to be able to help others.
I think women can do ANYTHING they set their mind to without a doubt. If you can dream it, you can do it. There are organizations out there that want to help women be successful in business. You just need to do your homework.
