Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Lee Martinez.

Carla Lee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in my parent’s store, I learned the good, the bad, and the ugly about owning a business.

Over the years, I have had several businesses from medical billing to assisted living. And the one thing they all had in common was sales. Without sales, there was no revenue and no business. Out of necessity, I researched how to sell and tested what worked and didn’t work. Over time, people would ask me how I turned an angry prospect into a happy customer and I’d teach them what I now call the 4 C’s to Selling. Over time, I started getting calls from their co-workers and my practice grew.

To make it work, I had to learn how to sell, and to sell fast or else I wasn’t going to be able to pay rent. Through a ton of trial and error, I developed my own sales strategy called the 4 C’s to Selling that is based on neuromarketing and neuro-linguist programming.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My business journey has not been smooth! The saying “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger” has truth in it. In the beginning, I was naive and trusting, and my first client (if you’d call it that) never paid me. That was an expensive lesson I learned in setting strong boundaries and getting paid. If you are just getting started, know your value and your worth, and don’t let anyone underestimate you. It’s worth hiring the right coach to provide guidance and hold up the mirror to see what you are capable of. Had I hired a coach sooner, I would have avoided a lot of sleepless nights and would have grown my businesses much faster.

I help entrepreneurs, financial advisors, real estate brokers and investors, high ticket sales professionals and even seminar companies to close more deals, faster. I once had a client who had been working for me for about two weeks and I had taught her how the first C to selling which is Clarity. By the end of the second week, she had closed 7 on seven of the 10 people she talked to for her coaching business. In other words, she made $15,000 in one week using my method where prior, she was closing on 1-2 people per month!

In today’s world, most people can sense when someone is being unauthentic and using cheesy sales tactics. It’s not the ABC’s (always be closing) days of the 1980s and 1990s. Prospects are more suspicious and educated than ever, and if you want to succeed, then you have to be able to sell in a way that seems conversational and brings true value to the relationship. That’s why I created my proprietary 4 C’s to Selling method that shortens the sales cycle and rapidly increased the closing rate.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
The most important piece of advise I’d give to a young woman who is getting started in her career is to: 1) get a coach and 2) learn to communicate with a variety of people and their styles because the quality of your life is determined by the quality of your communication.
