Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Stone.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Breanna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a passion for art and design but it wasn’t until my sophomore year of high school where I was able to take my first graphic design class. Since then, my love has grown year after year for the brilliance that art and graphic design provide. I’d always worked in retail and restaurants right out of high school but was stuck in this endless loop of surviving paycheck by paycheck. One day, I made the decision to move away from my family, out of my home state, to a state that would provide me better opportunities and a lower cost of living. Now, I’m prospering in a career I love, in the field, I love, and going to school to study the subject I love.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth journey; it’s so easy to feel overwhelmed by stress (whether that’s money related, family related, or anything else). I’ve learned that people place too much importance on things they shouldn’t; especially when it comes to money or relationships. Something that took me a while to learn, but was well worth it, was that you need to be genuinely 100% happy with being yourself. Once you learn this, you’ll learn to not be dependent on others for your own happiness. I personally was at a point where I had just got my heart broken, I was spending money rather than saving, and just wasn’t happy with my job and situation. The key point is; if you feel this way, change. For me, moving out of my hometown to another state has been incredibly rewarding.
Please tell us about your work.
I’ve always had a passion for graphic design and art. On a personal note, I’ve designed a few pieces of merchandise that will be sold by Yes Theory (under their apparel company Seek Discomfort) which will be released May 26th, 2019 to over 500,000 customers as well as designing and revamping resumes for consumers. (using my social media platform). Professionally, I am employed by SunWest Federal Credit Union where I assist in their day-to-day marketing campaigns and assist in graphic designs where need be. I believe what sets me apart from others is my experience and lack of fear for pitching seemingly off-the-wall design ideas. Essentially, not being afraid to try.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts by Tim Ferris, primarily his “Four-Hour Work Week” series. I’ve found it to help me realize that time and effort are two very different things; working on something you are passionate about is game-changing.
