Inspiring Conversations with Ashley Freehan of The Purpose Gathering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Freehan.

Hi Ashley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a business owner for over ten years as a photographer. I got into wedding photography right after my husband and I were married. About eight years into business as a mom and photographer, I hit rock bottom and was so overwhelmed and burnt out. I felt like no one truly understood what it felt like to be a mom and a business owner. I had a lot of mom friends who didn’t own a business and tons of business owner friends who didn’t have kids, and I felt like no one understood the unique struggles I faced trying to do both. In 2019 God laid it on my heart to start the Purpose Gathering. What started as a meetup community for all mom business owners has turned into an online support and coaching platform for mom photographers, and helping them turn their side hustle into a profitable and sustainable photography business without sacrificing their family or their sanity.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Covid hit less than a year into my new business venture and I feel like we were finally gaining momentum and people were hearing about the meetups. So I did what most business owners did and I pivoted to take my business online. It was always my hope to have a global reach, it just wasn’t the timeline I had planned.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Purpose Gathering is an online community and coaching platform that supports, educates and empowers mom photographers to step into the role of CEO in their motherhood and business. I’m also a brand photographer helping female entrepreneurs stand out online and connect with their future clients with fun, authentic images that show off the face of their brand! I’m most proud of my podcast and the community I’ve created. I always promise to show up authentically no matter how hard or vulnerable it might feel. I want mamas to feel supported. I know how lonely mompreneurship can be, and I don’t want any mama to experience the rock bottom loneliness I’ve experienced. I’m so grateful for every experience I’ve had in the past two years growing this business because it has led me to where I am today. I recently launched my signature program for mom photographers called Side Hustler to CEO and it’s everything I so wish I would have known ten years ago when I started my business.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are a lot of people along the way that have supported me and encouraged me. Coaches, mentors and my family. I think it’s so crucial to have other people in your life to guide you on the right path and point out blind spots you might not notice.
