Today we’d like to introduce you to Ula & David Bozek.
Hi Ula & David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In our early twenties, we started WMP Eyewear in 2011 out of our small apartment in Chicago, IL. We moved to AZ in 2017, found a warehouse space to expand WMP, and began growing our team. In 2019, we made Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Companies list! We always loved accessories and wanted everyone to have access to great quality without paying a huge markup for branding and a logo. Our goal was for customers to be shocked at the low price when they could physically see and feel the high quality of our sunglasses. We believe that staying true to our mission and working hard has gotten us to where we are today. Initially, when starting WMP, we would stay up until 2 am some days packing orders. David focused on upgrading the product with each coming year, and I focused on improving our marketing, branding and growing our team. We have been fortunate to find committed, hard-working individuals to join our team. I truly believe we wouldn’t be where we are without our team.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not a smooth road. If anyone says running a business is a “smooth road,” they’re lying, haha! 🙂 Starting a business requires a lot of sacrifices. For the first 5 years, we never took a vacation or a day off. We worked many hours while investing everything we made back into the business. I would say we are just now finally starting to find some balance. Initially, learning to stay on top of ever-changing eyewear trends was a challenge, but now we feel we have a great understanding of what our customers love.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about WMP Eyewear?
WMP Eyewear stands for (W)orn and (M)ade with (P)urpose. At WMP, our mission is to provide quality eyewear that is not exclusive to designer labels. We’re committed to creating trendy, affordable glasses accessible to everyone. Many eyewear brands in the market are currently not independently owned, so I think the fact we’re a family-owned business makes us unique. We care about our customers and stand behind the product we sell. Also, we partner with the Arizona Humane Society. A portion of each order is donated to AHS to help needy animals! We make quarterly donations and deliver anything the shelter needs most. We love to schedule team volunteer days where we walk and play with all the cute pups at their shelter awaiting homes forever.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
If you have a business idea, you have to be ready to work hard. I think many people walk into starting a business thinking it will give them freedom, and while that is true – the first years are far from it. It gets better, though! Work hard today for a better tomorrow.
