Hidden Gems: Meet Tiffany & Hayley Donovan of Baked Wives

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany & Hayley Donovan.

Hi Tiffany & Hayley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
We have always shared a love for food. Before launching Baked Wives, we spent years traveling and seeking out the best food each city had. When we eloped in Oregon, we loved working with the different vendors and seeing how everyone’s efforts came together for our special day. We were inspired by this and set out to create a product that would be a perfect addition to other people’s special moments.

We decided to launch Baked Wives in 2021. We focused our business on creating custom desserts for special events – birthdays, bachelor/bachelorette parties, baby showers, anniversaries, corporate events – and everything in between. Since launching Baked Wives, we have had the opportunity to play a small part in many people’s special moments and have connected to our community more than ever before.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any business, there have been a few struggles along the journey. One of the struggles we faced at the beginning of our business is that it is easy to overcommit. It takes time to learn the balance of staying busy but with enough time to think through each order with care and intention. Almost all of our orders are custom, and we carefully pick out shapes, colors, and designs to bring the client’s vision to life. To do this process right requires time. Learning to say “no” was an important lesson that allowed us to focus on our strengths and ultimately led to significant growth in our business. However, it’s still a daily challenge – we love our clients and never want to turn them down!

We’ve been impressed with Baked Wives, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Baked Wives specializes in creating custom desserts for personal and professional events. We don’t limit our clients design-wise and love incorporating personal touches that make each order unique. Beyond working with clients in our community, we also love partnering with local chefs and businesses to help them create memorable experiences through food. What sets us apart from other businesses is when you work with Baked Wives, you get two creative minds bringing your vision to life.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking is pivotal when running a business. It creates the perfect balance within our business. Working together in a partnership, we are lucky to have a good balance in this area – Tiffany being the risk-taker and Hayley being more conservative. Risk-taking was a big part of what propelled Baked Wives’ growth. At the end of 2021, Tiffany decided to leave her 10+ career in the medical field to pursue Baked Wives and her other culinary ventures full-time. She channeled all of her energy into the business and was able to grow it bigger than we had ever anticipated, and none of it would be possible had she not taken the risk.
