Hidden Gems: Meet Michelle Pierce of Creative Edge Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Pierce.

Hi Michelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In the early 2000s, I took a huge leap of faith and resigned from my safe, decade-long job in office furniture to work with my father, who was a residential general contractor at the time. I was confident in many aspects of growing our firm and catering to clients, but quickly realized I was ill-prepared for the bidding aspect of my job. For the next year, I spent days working as a construction crew member and familiarizing myself with as many aspects of the build industry as I could, then assisting with the business side of things in the evenings. What an incredible education that was!

As the business grew and our goals expanded, I knew I needed more and enrolled in an introductory interior design course. I’ll never forget getting goosies and an almost explosive thrill as the instructor explained the fundamental principles of interior design and the overall direction the program would take. I knew this was the right path for me, and that all my previous life experiences had led me to this junction. My passion was about to become my occupation!

I excelled in school then invested time seeking out opportunities in the construction and design industry, working hard to expand my knowledge bank and become a well-rounded designer.

Fast forward to late 2012, and I took another huge leap of faith – but this time into the world of entrepreneurship. And so my journey began … again.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pursuing your dream is never smooth sailing – but it IS extremely rewarding!

Life is hard – period. No matter what direction you choose, it takes tenacity, bravery, humility, grit, ambition, patience and a million other traits to remain focused on accomplishing your goals.

Prior to launching Creative Edge, I co-owned a successful design firm for seven years. Dissolving our partnership was certainly not what either of us envisioned when we started out, yet that venture taught me so many valuable lessons. I’ve done my best to make the most of out of them, while being very intentional this time around to create the company I’ve always dreamed of.

And I couldn’t be happier because I’m crafting a life I love, doing the things I love – with people I love.

That’s not to say there aren’t still many challenging situations that arise (sometimes on the regular!). To keep me grounded and focused, I rely heavily on my faith, dreams, optimism, and my incredible support system.

As you know, we’re big fans of Creative Edge Interiors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are an award-winning, full-service interior design firm specializing in designing, renovating, and furnishing beautiful spaces.

Our designs themselves are widely varied, as they’re customized to each client. Yet our focus remains the same with every project: create timeless, welcoming, and functional homes infused with an aura of casual sophistication.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to? What sets you apart?
I come from a large, close-knit family filled with creative souls and entrepreneurs. And thankfully, because of our family traits, I was born a hybrid.

I’m an individual who likes – and needs – order and structure. My brain works in processes and seeks to understand the “why” behind things in order to create solutions. I love geeking out over spreadsheets, managing the numbers, finding ways to streamline a process, and coordinating projects.

Yet I’m also a creative. I need color, creative challenges, and an abundance of diversity (projects, food, art, music, activities – you name it) to feel balanced. I’ve learned to live life “eyes wide open”, looking for and drawing inspiration from pretty much every aspect of life.

Honoring both sides of myself is a vital part of my existence. I love that my professional career was developed and solidified in the business sector prior to expanding into the creative facets of the construction and design industry. It allows me to challenge myself in every aspect of the creative process while providing a strong foundation for our firm.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?

I truly love what I do – and how we do it – and that passion is a palpable energy that shines through in every one of our projects.
