Hidden Gems: Meet Lillian Jackson & Melissa Mason of Brown Skin Brunchin, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lillian Jackson & Melissa Mason.

Hi Lillian Jackson &. We’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We have a friendship that spans over 30 years, and despite living across the country, we have managed to come together and create Brown Skin Brunchin’. This global community allows women to meet new people, connect on their terms, and further their social connections. The premise for Brown Skin Brunchin was that we found ourselves no longer living in the same city and having to navigate making friends. As we have gotten older, we realized it’s not as easy as when we were younger, thus the beginning of Brown Skin Brunchin.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building Brown Skin Brunchin has had its challenges. When the pandemic hit and we had to cease all of our brunches, we were worried the momentum we had built up would die. There was a fear that people would be hesitant to want to come back outside for brunch with strangers. Surprisingly, the pandemic only made us stronger. We realized that the months of everyone sitting in the house-made women even more excited to get out and meet new people. Our brunches that averaged 7-10 people were suddenly selling out with 15-20 people. The demand to have larger brunches and expand to other cities was at an all-time high. When we had to pause our brunches in March 2021, we had 20 cities. By 2021, we will have tripled our presence with over 60 cities.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Brown Skin Brunchin, LLC?
Lillian and Melissa are the Founders of Brown Skin Brunchin, a founder-funded global technology, and social group. Brown Skin Brunchin allows women to meet once a month and make social connections in a relaxed environment indulging in everyone’s favorite pastime, Brunch! Founded in 2018 in Las Vegas and Richmond, VA, Brown Skin Brunchin is well on its way to becoming an exclusive & sought-after social club as they are now located in 75 cities across the country, including Grenada and Toronto. The group plans to be active in 100 cities by the end of the year and expand to 25 overseas cities within the next 18 months. Over 1100 women meet for our monthly brunches, and attendance is steadily increasing.

Lillian and Melissa are most proud of how much the group has accomplished and how Brown Skin Brunchin has managed to come together as a small family behind the scenes to grow the brand. In addition to brunches, Brown Skin Brunchin has released their own Champagne line, Brunch in a Bottle, and created their self-titled app, Brown Skin Brunchin. The app currently has over 15k subscribers. According to Lillian, “We wanted to create our platform that gave members a chance to connect and keep in contact outside of Brunch. We aim to have members from authentic friendships that transcend Brunch and the city limits and allow women to connect from other cities and states and build those bonds”.

What sets Brown Skin Brunchin apart is that we focus on adult women of all ages, building a sisterhood, and forming genuine connections. According to Melissa, “Whether you are new to a city where you don’t know anyone, or you just haven’t made any new friends, and you want to jump-start a new chapter in your social life, Brown Skin Brunchin is the place for that.”

We want readers to know that new members are always allowed and can brunch in any city of their choice. Living in a town does not limit you to one city. If you find yourself in Los Angeles or New York and want to join the ladies for Brunch, you are more than welcome. We encourage traveling to meet fellow brunchers. If you live in a city with no active chapter, we are open to speaking with you to become an ambassador for a new chapter.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson is not to be discouraged and to stay the course of your goals. We could have called it quits when the pandemic hit, but we kept our eye on the prize. Another important lesson would be to be able to separate business and friendship. There are a lot of friendships that would find it difficult to balance business and personal, but we manage to navigate both lanes pretty well, and it honestly makes the brand even stronger.
