Hidden Gems: Meet Jonathan Puu of Real Quick Design & Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Puu.

Hi Jonathan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
In 1998, I was 10 years old and I picked up a DVD of the “How To HTML” series from our local video store. We rented movies & video games there, but I realized that after reading the box, HTML was my gateway to making my own website!

After binging the whole series in a weekend, I began furiously coding in a notepad, which is hilarious considering where we are at now for web design but that is how you started back then.

Fast forward to many years later as an adult, I went through periods of making websites for my friends, families, school, and for our family. I became a consultant for people trying to get their businesses online, guiding them through the web design process. Once social media became a “thing” for businesses, I was already using it and began consulting with my clients on this as well.

I began working for writers and celebrities to create mockups of their website concepts that they would pitch for working concepts alongside building projects for small businesses and companies.

This all came to a halt once I began leaning into my passion for martial arts, where I utilized my ability to create websites, knowledge of SEO, lead generation, and social media to help build our company. After 8 years of focusing solely on building out that company, I’ve begun making my way back to web design & consulting!

Not only have I walked the walk as an entrepreneur, but I picked up a TON of new skills along the way. I enjoy helping people achieve their goals in life and for business owners, that’s through their business. Passion is a big driver for me, and my purpose is to have a positive impact on as many people as possible. If I can help a business get its project online, that’s a positive impact that will go far beyond when I finish the project for them!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship and small business are a struggle. You’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t, a lot of the times.

You won’t know if you made the best decision until later and you have to live with whatever decision you make.

Knowing this, I can definitely say I’m glad to have faced the challenges such as operating and creating a thriving company through COVID shutdowns in California, which will allow me to think outside of the box for problems my clients bring to me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Real Quick Design & Consulting?
Real Quick Design & Consulting really began back in 2012 when I was working with bootstrapped small businesses building from the ground up. Either online or for brick-and-mortar shops.

We specialize in agency quality work at small business prices and are known for our quality work!

The thing that sets us apart from others is that I’ve owned & operated multiple businesses as a 34-year-old entrepreneur and have the experience behind me to help you avoid mistakes I’ve made in the past or that I see people commonly make.

I’m most proud of the fact that we help our clients achieve their goals through their web & logo design projects! We have also done some incredible work with clients’ SEO & marketing videos.

If you aren’t located locally, it’s all good! I work remotely most of the time and with my simple process, we will get your project going for you with little-to-no work from you. As I know how valuable your time is as a business owner, my goal is to focus on your project and get it done so you can continue to grow. If you grow, then we grow as well.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
During the covid-19 shutdowns, I learned what I value and how to truly operate a business. The company I was helping build was 5 years old at the time and is now growing with record numbers this year. Many people chose to shutter and “wait it out”, but many of those people no longer have a business today.

Being able to be uncomfortable for ungodly amounts of time is what it takes to be successful in business and my goal is to help ease that burden with our services. That way, you can continue to grow and suffer a bit less as a business owner/operator.
