Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Wilson.
Amber, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a small town Kentucky girl, raised on a strong work ethic and humble beginnings (my business name represents my roots, Maddox Lane, is a combination of the two street names I was born on). In our home, food was symbolic with love. We were fortunate to develop an appreciation for ingredients, being that we raised many of them…from our beef to our strawberries, and lots of greens in between.
Food & wellness is a passion that became my business, but it was never part of my original “plan”. I attended Arizona State University WP Carey School of Business, graduating with a degree in Global Leadership with a finance emphasis and a very different idea of what my future would look like.
Through the twists of life, I found myself in Los Angeles working under a celeb nutritionist. I started as her assistant and personal chef and quickly created opportunities by bringing profitable ideas to the table and I had the enthusiasm for the work and the work ethic & drive to see them to fruition. Eventually, I was overseeing business operations. Within my first year, we created a plant-based delivered cleanse program that’s still in existence today. I am incredibly proud of my mark in creating and successfully growing that program, it was a labor of love and I was provided many opportunities to learn and grow during those six years.
During my time in Los Angeles I developed a passion for wellness. I found myself surrounded by people looking for the next best thing…from paleo and keto to a variety of trendy detoxes and cleanses, I knew in my heart that food and self-care didn’t need to be overwhelming, complicated or aesthetic driven. The realization that I could offer an intentional food program that could also be delicious and sustainable long term was the genesis for Maddox Lane. Eating well is something I consider to be an ultimate act of self-love and I wanted to make that easier for others to achieve.
I created Maddox Lane to simplify and support intentional, sustainable & balanced LIFELONG eating habits. We use Mediterranean diet principles as a guideline but we are NOT a diet and we never want you to go on one ever again!! Maddox Lane blends “New age, Californian” food with my “Kentucky-inspired mom” roots to build a style of eating that focuses on quality, taste, fun, well-being and love and I am grateful every day that I get to do this!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely NOT a smooth road. I am on the roller-coaster ride of small business ownership, often in the pits of it. In addition to the self-doubt that creeps in at the end of long days, the exhaustion, and isolating feelings that being a solo business owner can bring, this pandemic has brought forth additional struggles including human resource challenges, difficulty sourcing ingredients and packaging, cost increases across the board, concerns for the well-being of our team and our customers, and navigating the highly polarizing politicized climate these days.
I struggle with balancing the workload and a personal life. I feel a huge sense of duty to our customers, to my team, to my network and I struggle when I feel I have let any one of them down. It is a daily practice to put my well-being first. The better I treat myself, the better prepared I am to do my best at work (often easier said than done). When I lead with gratitude, take care of my body, and prioritize sleep, that brings me back to a good frame of mind pretty quickly, but owning a food business is the hardest thing I’ve done and I have so much respect for others in this space. It has inspired me to support and connect as much as I can with other business owner.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Maddox Lane ?

Some highlights about our food programs:
* We only cook with and make all dressings and marinades with extra virgin olive oil (mostly sourced from Seka Hills)
* We use organic poultry and Verlasso Salmon along with wild caught seafood
* At minimum we follow the EWG’s “Dirty Dozen” guide when buying produce and source organic ingredients as much as we possibly can
* We offer plant-based options for at least 80% of our menu offerings
* We strive for balanced meals and focus on complex carbs, healthy fats (nuts, seeds, olive oil), minimal dairy, greens, beans and legumes, and moderate portions of seafood or poultry 80% of the time
So much time and research has gone into our ingredients (from where I source our olive oil and sea salts, to the ingredients in our seasonings) and I will not serve our customers anything that I wouldn’t feed my only family. I have done the research on products for you and tried to make this way of eating as delicious and convenient as possible. I hear all the time, “This is the BEST meal delivery service I have ever tried” or “Nothing else comes close to comparing to your quality” and that feedback keeps me going for another day.
We have the BEST customers, I say it all the time and it is true. Our Maddox Lane super power really is in attracting the best people and I am grateful for them every day. The support of every individual customer means everything to a small business like us.
I’m looking forward to in-person events making a comeback so I can continue to connect our clients with amazing brands in the wellness space.
I also look forward to being out and about in the community, the Maddox Lane team loves interacting with you and it’s important for our food to be discussed and enjoyed.
We are excited about expanding our corporate food program and supporting employee well-being and productivity through our meals.
The long-term goal is to create a brick and mortar hybrid wellness and food space with a boutique market to showcase our favorite brands from olive oils and sea salts to supplements. Here we would offer grab-and-go food, community wellness classes, dine-in options, and create a sense of community. While the initial development in securing space for this was put on pause due to COVID, we are determined to make this happen in the Phoenix area.
