Exploring Life & Business with Olivia Herrera of Untie&Unwind

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Herrera.

Hi Olivia , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I went to Cortiva Institute in December, right after I graduated from high school in May. I graduated from Cortive sometime in July. I started my career at a Franchise company for 6 months. I didn’t like it so I decided to quit. I found another smaller massage company to work at. I was suppose to learn how to start up & manage my business there. After two months, I failed. So I started to work for a family owned massage company. With them I did learn the in & out of a company. The couple taught me as much as they could. When they could. I stayed with them almost three years. After the coronavisus pandemic happened. We had to shut down since we were not considered “essential workers”. Once the shut down was over we were let go.

Then I got a message from the wife of the family owned business. She asked me if I would like to come back but this time start up my own business & rent a room with them. I was absolutely nervous but excited so I said yes. They helped me create my LLC & everything else you need to do for a massage business.

The way I created Untie & Unwind LLC.
I was sitting down with the husband of the family owned business & I started off with the letter U. I originally wanted to call it U. But then he told me to put more thought into it. Between the both of us we came up with Untie&Unwind.

My name is Olivia herrera, first generation in the U.S. from Guatemala. At the age of 24, I’m now married with three beautiful children.
I am the owner of Untie and Unwind

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I started after the shut down. Not many people wanted a massage while there was a pandemic. But I tried to do my own advertising on social media & ClassPass. Most of it came from my clientele I had already built with the family owned business. Those clients told their friend & family about me.

While I was trying to build my business, I got pregnant with my third baby. Although, I didn’t let that stop me. I had work up to my due date. I had two months off after. I resumed back to work in August of 2021. I’ve only had my business since June 16th 2020.

Since I have been back working I had been getting busier. I had finally managed to accomplish one week of getting completely booked. Now my next goal is to get a month booked out!

I know myself very well. So if I say I will do something then I go all in & do whatever I can to accomplish my goal.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist. I have been a LMT for 4 years.

I am specialized in
Burn survivors
Cancer patients
Gua Sha
PNF – assisted Stretching
Cupping
Lymphatic drainage
Swedish
Deep tissue
Prenatal & Postnatal
myofascial release
Sports massage

What sets me apart from the rest is that you receive your full hour. During that time the massage is accommodated to your specific needs from the issues in your tissue. I usually also add on Gua Sha, Cupping & PNF – assisted Stretching. I can do light to very deep work. What ever works best for the client.

I absolutely love my career & I wouldn’t change it. I am happy to help as many people as I possibly can!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I do not have a mentor. But what I do have is friends & family I ask advice from or that can share their experiences with me. I normally ask around to get different opinions & perspectives.

We all think different. We all have different opinions. Some of us are open to everything, brave, mindful, risk takers. A few of us are mainly happy in our bubble.

I want to be the person my family & friends can say that I was a risk taker, brave, open minded, happy, mindful & does what I need to do when I set my mind to do something not everyone is willing to do.
