Exploring Life and Business with Nicole Bennett of Perry Consulting LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Bennett.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My experience in the meeting/event planning field spans over two decades. I began my professional event planning career while working as a Program Specialist for Girl Scouts in 1995.

But long before that Nicole was learning the tricks of the trade (unbeknownst to her) alongside her mother who planned fundraising events in Los Angeles. Her mom planned large fundraisers, comedy nights, 10K run/walk, community harvest festival and more – she did all this on a volunteer basis. Nicole always thought her mom should open her own business, but her mom came from an era where you worked for the same company for 25 years, got your gold watch and retired. So, in 2001 Nicole started Perry Consulting LLC inspired to show her mom what was possible.

Along the way Nicole worked at Loyola Marymount University as the Senior Human Resources Trainer, designing and facilitating professional development workshops for LMU employees, facilitating various campus department retreats and creating customized workshops based on departmental needs. But in 2006 when she got married and moved to the Valley of the Sun she was determined to devote her energies to her business full time. She has never looked back and never worked for someone else since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
L.A. is a competitive market so I had to find my way through trial and error. Even industry groups were very competitive and had the atmosphere that there’s not enough to go around so peers weren’t very helpful or forthcoming. In the beginning I was practically giving away my services just to get clients to establish references and gain word of mouth marketing. My friends and family were helping me for free so I didn’t have to spend the little money I was making on payroll. Thankfully the Valley of the Sun as a whole is like a small town masking itself as a big city and after attending chamber mixers and joining a local BNI group I found my way. I spent the first year networking and each meeting lead to other meetings – people were willing to share their contacts and eager to help me to connect. That helped me establish a community and a base of clients – most of whom we still support.

More recently the COVID pandemic. “I hate COVID and it’s far-reaching effects, this time period did force me to be creative and after 20 years in the industry that feeling is reinvigorating – just like when I first started my business,” Bennett says. “Events That Move was me trying to create a lifeline for my business when we weren’t sure if large scale events would come back; even now it’s unsure if they will come back at the pre-pandemic volume.”

Events That Move is a truly innovative idea ~ this mobile venue on wheels arrives at a location of the client’s choosing and literally opens for business with the side walls opening to reveal a bar/restaurant on wheels. Patrons sit around the outside of the open-air venue on bar stools and receive first class service from the team at Perry Consulting. The mobile venue can be used for a variety of events, meetings, social gatherings, product promotions and more!

With mask mandates lifting, events are coming back online but the landscape is vastly different than before COVID. Lots of safety measures to think through and varying comfort levels of guests to consider. Events That Move allows customers to have an intimate and safe event while being entertained with the novelty of the new concept.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Perry Consulting LLC provides full service event and meeting services. In addition to comprehensive planning services PCLLC offers tailored services such as auction services (online and in person), logistical support, registration staffing and day of event support. Our many years of experience and solid record of success have firmly established us as trusted professionals who understand the needs of our clients.

One of the keys to our success is that we operate as an extension of the client’s staff, handling all the event details from concept through completion.

Perry Consulting was founded on the principles of knowledge, service and spiritual integrity. Our mission is to bring those principles to every client interaction to produce innovative, well executed, successful events.

We are clear about who we are and therefore not trying to be all things to all clients (we’re not photographers, caterers, marketing specialists, etc.). That means we spend all our time being hyper focused on being flawless meeting and event professionals.
