Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After a successful career working years in the human resources profession in Arizona, I sought to pursue two of my passions while meeting specific needs in the Valley.
First, in 2016, I founded an event just for HR Executives. While working in HR, I found there were a lot of events for HR professionals, but they were focused mainly on the entry to mid-level professional and not the senior level. The senior level HR Executive has different educational and networking requirements. I incorporated these requirements into an event – the Human Resources Executive Summit and Retreat. With assistance from trusted advisors, I plan and host this event including identifying the resort, the agenda, the speakers, the invitees, the meals, and the activities. This year, we will hold the sixth annual HRESR in October at the Ranchos de los Caballeros in Wickenburg, Arizona.
Second, in 2019, I took a chance and founded a small business – HR ExecPro – focused on executive searches for the public sector. It is a business I had wanted to start for decades. Although there are numerous firms that conduct public sector searches, there are few headquartered in Arizona. As a native, I recognize how special Arizona is and how important it is that we have the right people in the right positions leading our counties, cities, and towns. With an amazing network of leaders in Arizona and other states, I am able to recruit the ideal individuals to these local leadership positions and assist in the selection process. Recognizing additional needs that matched my expertise, I recently expanded the services of my business to include workplace investigations and expert witness services.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Unfortunately, the pandemic started just a few months after I began HR ExecPro. It was not the ideal time to establish the necessary business relationships to start a business. We have the expertise to conduct executive search and selection processes like the national firms. We offer the added benefit of being local which allows us to conduct more on-site personalized and specialized assistance to elected and appointed officials during the process. Contracting with a local firm such as ours supports Arizona’s small businesses and keeps the taxpayers’ funds in Arizona. However, it is very difficult competing with the national, well-established firms who have been doing these searches for the counties, cities, and town for years.
The HR Executive event has had its challenges, too. HR Executives are not able to attend a lot of outside events due to their schedules so getting them to the HR Executive Summit and Retreat is always a struggle. However, once they attend their first one, they see the value and are likely to continue attending. Most of our attendees participate year after year.

After the candidate is appointed, we can also facilitate the performance evaluation process.
Our annual HR Executive Summit and Retreat is like no other event. It is designed for the top HR Executive of an organization as it focuses on the educational sessions that are important to them. It adds opportunities to share best practices and network with other HR Executives in a retreat-like setting.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Riding on the back of my dad’s Honda motorcycle through the washes in northern Phoenix. I now ride my own motorcycle and often enjoy rides on the back of my husband’s Harley Davidson motorcycle.
