Exploring Life & Business with Kristine Godinez of Aha Counseling AZ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Dodinez.

Hi Kristine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After growing up in a disordered family and realizing I could help others, I decided to get my master’s in counseling. I got my LAC working at the homeless shelter in downtown Phoenix. Once I got my LPC, I opened my private practice Aha Counseling AZ. I have written three books: “What’s Wrong With Your Dad?” which is an autobiography about growing up and surviving a disordered family of origin, “You Can Lead A Horse To Water, But You Can’t Make ‘Em Cha, Cha” which is about why some people stay in abusive relationships while others get out, and “So, You Want To Be A Therapist?” which is an insider’s look at what being therapist is. I have a weekly show on YouTube, “We Need To Talk With Kris Godinez,” every Sunday at noon, and it is also a podcast. I am working on a fourth book and do meet and greets around the country, helping people leave abusive relationships.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Self-esteem is key. Once I realized I was holding myself back and worked on self-esteem and boundaries, life got much easier! As far as running a private practice, learning the ins and outs of budgeting, malpractice insurance, and finding the right place for an office were the biggest challenges.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner and sole practitioner at Aha Counseling AZ. I specialize in Intimate Partner Violence/helping people get out and stay out of abusive relationships, whether that is family of origin, friends, boss, or a romantic partner. I have a weekly YouTube show every Sunday at noon AZMST which is also a podcast called “We Need To Talk With Kris Godinez.” I have written three books: “What’s Wrong With Your Dad?”, “You Can Lead A Horse To Water, But You Can’t Make ‘Em Cha, Cha” and “So, You Want To Be a Therapist.” I travel the country doing meet and greets. Nothing makes me happier than when clients reclaim their self-esteem, leave abuse and thrive! I do individual therapy. I do a sliding scale. I do not take insurance. I only do video sessions. Sessions are 45 minutes long. I use a lot of humor. I use CBT Cognitive Behavior Therapy.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
We make our luck. If you listen to your gut, you won’t need luck.

  • Normal fee: $150.00
  • I do a sliding scale
