Exploring Life & Business with Francine Bogran of Primp and Blow Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francine Bogran.

Hi Francine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been one who was born with the gift of wanting to help others feel their best by way of the beauty industry. Since I was in diapers, I used to cut and comb my doll’s tresses. Raised in Sedona, AZ, I moved to Scottsdale and enrolled at Penrose Academy, where after that, my dream of being a licensed cosmetologist came true. I started working at Primp and Blow the day after I graduated from cosmetology school six years ago. I am now franchising with the company and starting my own Primp and Blow Salon in California. I will open up the first Primp and Blow salon in California! We are just waiting on CA licensing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My mother did not believe in me. She thought being a cosmetologist was a dead end. I now make more $$$ than her, and she is a nurse practitioner. My father, who loved me wholeheartedly, passed when I was 25. He was an alcoholic, and his liver went out. My mother remarried, but when I was 35, my stepfather committed suicide, and I dropped to the ground. I had just graduated from Penrose Academy (my cosmetology school); I took a break for about a year and went to California to live and get my mind off the pain. As my independent contractor, I gained even more confidence and was kicking a** at a hair salon called Hairology in Southgate, CA. I had never made more money in my life! I had now got the 6-figure mark and then some! I returned to AZ, started a full remodel in my house, and even made an in-home studio for cut and color at my residence. I returned to Primp and Blow Salon, where we do blowouts, extensions, and makeup. No cut, no color- that I do in my in-home salon suite. I am now full-time at the primping and blow High Street location as we work on opening up my own Primp and Blow Salon. I sell life insurance on the side as an extra source of income since I am still a single mother. That won’t be long, though, since I just got engaged on July 4th! I could not be happier!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am in the middle of opening up a Primp and Blow Salon where we are extension specialists, a dry bar, and have incredible makeup artists who are all meticulously trained to give a service of perfection. I specialize in hair and makeup. Beach waves are all the rave now. I can provide beach waves in less than 15 minutes, and if you want excellent “natural” makeup, I am your girl for the job. No one does better natural makeup than me. We use Smashbox and Inglot makeup and Oribe for hair. Oribe is the industry’s most luxurious (and expensive) hair care line, and we carry it! I am known for my work ethic. I work 7 days a week with a smile! One will never see me run down; I’m full of positive energy every day. Everyone says I am the most ambitious go-getter they have ever met. I would have to agree. I’m at Primp and Blow Salon 5 days a week. I work out of my home salon the other two days and sell life insurance. All while I was a full-time mama. My son is now 14 years old. He attends Scottsdale Christian Academy, is in chess club and gymnastics, plays basketball for his school and plays the piano and saxophone. Mama feels proud of her one and only son. He says I am his hero.

Is something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
When I am bored, I turn up the volume to my karaoke machine and slip on my white glove and fedora hat as I moonwalk across my living room floor. I know every Michael Jackson song by heart and have been impersonating him since I can remember. Long live there, king of pop!

  • My blowouts at Primp and Blow salon in High Street are $50
  • A full makeup application is $50 at primp and blow
  • An Oribe renewal treatment is $40 at Primp and Blow which is better than Olaplex! It makes it so that your hair does not break for up to 6 weeks! I sell the most Oribe renewal treatments every year. I give a treatment just about every day.
