Exploring Life and Business with Chelsea Vetsch of Design and Dwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Vetsch.

Hi Chelsea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My career as a young professional began as a teacher in a title one school. I went to school for education and was very passionate about teaching. To make a long story short, my husband and I ended up taking in two students that went to my school and later were able to adopt them through the foster care system. Through this process, I began to see my career differently and wanted to step away from teaching as a profession. I became pregnant in my last year of teaching, which was a really great transition into doing something new. I wanted to do something flexible so I could spend more time with my three kids and have energy for our growing family.

My husband is in architecture so I have been influenced a lot by his passion for design and interior spaces. I decided to take courses to get my real estate license so I could work with people— my biggest passion and also be surrounded by design. We actually started a company together this year, Design & Dwell, where we renovate and sell homes. It is so fun to work on projects with him and let our creative chaos collide.

When we’re not collaborating on projects, you can find me working as both a buyer’s and seller’s agent. My focus is helping teachers and first-time home buyers. I feel my calling as a teacher never really left me because I love making presentations, infographics and more to explain the home buying/selling process.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest struggles going from being a teacher to full-time real estate agent was finances. Now teachers really do not make that much, however it is much more stable and includes benefits. It was super intimidating stepping out on my own, but I also knew it was necessary for my family and my own personal growth.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Design & Dwell?
Design & Dwell is an extension of my business as a real estate agent. As an agent, I thrive in helping first-time home buyers, teachers, and other young professionals. Really, anyone looking to have a relevant agent guide them through one of the biggest decisions they can make. I also love to draw from my experience in design to help clients see the potential in a home. A little vision can go a long way. Especially in today’s market, having the ability to be creative and see what “could be” is very valuable.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Enthusiasm and optimism are what truly drives me. I love being my clients’ cheerleaders. I am with them when it feels impossible and encourages them the whole way through the buying and selling process.
