Exploring Life & Business with Kim Ebeling of Ebeling Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Ebeling.

Hi Kim, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been in the hospitality industry my entire working life. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor’s in Hospitality Management, then became a Sommelier in 2004 while working for the Walt Disney Company. I managed the wine bar and fine dining restaurants at the Disneyland Resort and ultimately was on the planning and opening team that launched the Food & Wine Festival at Disney’s California Adventure Park. Later I earned my MBA from Biola University in Los Angeles, CA, while managing the Disney Professional Intern program. I have been producing events of all sizes since 2002 while working for organizations, including The Walt Disney Company and Karl Strauss Brewing Company.

After “retiring” from corporate life, I launched my own event planning business in Malibu, CA that has grown into helping many people celebrate major milestones from weddings and birthdays to successful nonprofit fundraisers. We have now expanded to our second location, in Phoenix, AZ. Scottsdale is where I grew up, so it is really exciting to be offering party and event planning services here in the valley. My team at Ebeling Events have won several awards and I am extremely honored to win Malibu’s Event Planner of the year in 2020. My team and I bring passion, precision and calm to the events they produce while focusing on every last detail, treating your event and guests as our own.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We are constantly striving to learn and grow. It has not been a perfect path, but we continue to make improvements after every event. From contract updates and onboarding clients to pricing adjustments and increased customer service, along with my team, we take every chance we get to make things better for our clients. One major struggle we have seen in the event industry is the waste. We are trying hard to improve ways to host events more sustainably to be a better steward of our resources!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always active. I participated in Do Re Mi School of the Arts through middle school, participated in the school musicals and played volleyball and ran track in high school. I am a little sister, so I always had my big sister looking out for me. We had a love-hate relationship which kept me on my toes and stealing her clothes. After high school, I was lucky to stay in-state and attend NAU as a walk-on hurdler for the track team.
