Daily Inspiration: Meet Tina Buckley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Buckley.

Hi Tina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

I have always loved art and beauty. I have always loved skincare. I was the girl who woke up early to do her skincare routine all throughout elementary school and highs school. My mother has gorgeous skin and continues to be my inspiration for self care. I got my first facial when I was 17 years old and couldn’t believe that this was someone’s job! It was love at first touch. I dreamt about doing this for a profession. I grew up on the beautiful beaches in Southern California and moved to sunny Phoenix, Arizona for the love of my life, in 2010. While working at Trader Joe’s in 2012, I decided to go to the The Southwest Institute of Natural Aesthetics to begin my career in skincare.

The power of touch is critical to our wellbeing. When I discovered the magic that came with facial massage I knew I had to learn more. I went back to school to learn full body massage at The Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in 2016. I received my license in massage and became a certified reiki practitioner. In 2017, I went back to school to become a licensed aesthetics instructor to teach aesthetics and I have taught at three different schools here in the Valley. I even taught at the aesthetics school I went to! Coming full circle.

Currently, I am living a long-term goal. I made this goal ten years ago when I began this skincare journey with my own practice in a studio, Ritus Skincare (Ritus means ritual in Latin) in Phoenix and educating for Skin Script Skincare at their training center in Chandler. I am passionate about treatments and education and truly touching people’s lives. It’s the best job ever! I get to do the two things I love the most about my profession.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Laundry! IYKYK. It hasn’t always been easy. In fact, it’s much harder than people think. It seems glamorous but it is so much work to put yourself out there and take a risk on following your heart. Imposter Syndrome is real thing in this industry and we must support each other and lift each other up. Believing in yourself can be the biggest struggle. Especially if you are just starting out.

Continuing education is imperative to building confidence and avoiding isolation if you work as a solo aesthetician. I always tell my students that don’t stop learning and don’t be so hard on themselves. You don’t become an expert overnight! It takes practice, patience, and proactivity to achieve success. Building clientele takes time. Know your worth. Surrounding yourself with others who uplift you and celebrate your wins, even the small ones.

I define success as making connections with everyone who comes into my space. Providing not just an incredible service but creating compassionate long-term relationships with my clients. Success is uplifting and empowering other professionals to continue bringing their gifts into the world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I am a practicing licensed aesthetician, aesthetics instructor, brand educator, massage therapist, and reiki level II practitioner. I am known for my custom facial treatments. I am a traditional facial style. I specialize in the holistic face and body treatments including microcurrent, energy work and aromatherapy. I treat not only the skin but the soul.

My motto is “Good for the skin & Good for the spirit.”

I am most proud of being my authentic self, following my passion, and continuing to educate myself in my profession. What sets me apart from others is my extensive product knowledge and the that I teach continuing education classes for licensed professionals. I incorporate reiki, crystals, essential oils and local flower essences from Lotus Wei into all of my services.

I have been practicing professional skincare for ten years. I have full confidence that I can find something for everyone and have no problem admitting that I don’t know something and finding an answer or solution! I am always wanting to grow and learn. The skincare industry is really dynamic and there is always something new developing.

Any big plans?

I will continue providing delicious skincare treatments and relish being a part of the amazing skincare community. I dream of having a larger space where I can have an extensive professional product selection for retail and have a couple of treatment rooms to provide services to more people. I enjoy writing as well and to write articles for industry magazines is a bucket list item of mine I’d like to experience.

I look forward to watching this beautiful community grow and making a name for myself. No big changes at this time but who knows what the future holds!
