Daily Inspiration: Meet Taylor Claiborne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Claiborne.

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working as an artist by taking photographs at EDM venues in about 2008. I worked as an event photographer in the valley until I decided to get more serious with photography as an art form and went to school for it in about 2011.

I did a lot of school for art and photography before then but it was always a hobby for me. Through school, I eventually worked doing fashion e-commerce for work and I slowly moved away from fine art and alternative process photography and started focusing more on photography for commerce.

When I returned to the valley of the sun it was in 2019 that I started working for some small jewelry businesses helping them get online and sell their products. I have been doing that along with now making my own jewelry and selling it online for a while and now photography for art purposes has been slowly reinvigorating me while I also work doing photography for commerce.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The life of an artist is always a struggle. If it was easy more people would stay on the path. The most important part is diversifying where your income comes from along with finding a normal steady source of income.

The biggest thing with that as well is having your main source be something stable enough where you can rely on if everything else falls out from under you even if it isn’t art-related.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in vortographs and portrait photography along with some of the growing crystal jewelry that I make. I try to be a multifaceted artist so I can always have something to invigorate my creative flow so I don’t get stuck in an art block.

What do you think about luck?
Luck isn’t a factor, you have to set yourself up for success. Hoping you will get lucky and hit a jackpot will never happen. You also have to know how to prepare for failure and know how to read your audience and your current place in the world.
