Daily Inspiration: Meet Shavana Randon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shavana Randon.

Hi Shavana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, this wasn’t always an easy journey. I started as a 20-year-old girl just starting her life, working at Walmart. Homeless and scared. Then I was sent to the CASS a local shelter in Downtown Phoenix, Az. Talk about traumatized! During my time at Walmart, I became very mentally ill. A year later I was diagnosed with maniac depression, anxiety, and schizoaffective disorder. Mental health is a big part of my life whether that means taking days off when I need them or getting my fav coffee every day from my local Starbucks. Well, enough with the sob story, all I’d like to say is I’m grateful and blessed for where I am now. I have an apartment, a car, and a job! This city has been very good to me. Thank you, God, and thank you Phoenix!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of my struggles were homelessness, mental disorders, and transportation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I guess I would say I’m known for my kindness and style. I like taking selfies and dressing up. I’m most proud of my style! It’s forever changing!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up my nickname was Bossy. I told everyone what to do and how to do it. Whether that meant taking care of me or fixing my food! Lol :)) I’ve always been interested in fashion and design. I always had an eye for style.

Is there someone that helped/inspired you along the way and how you can get to know them better?
Well,  St. Joseph the worker here in Phoenix. Also, CASS shelter services and the kind workers who help push me through.
