Today we’d like to introduce you to Melisa Eskandari.
Hi Melisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I had quit my job in 2016 due to major anxiety and undiagnosed physical health issues that had crept up on me throughout the previous 8 years. I was eventually diagnosed with severe stage IV endometriosis. This disease was preventing me from being able to work just any 9-5 job because I had many days where getting out of bed was painful and impossible. I had reached the point where I needed to set everything aside and focus on my health and change my entire lifestyle. I knew my only option was to be able to manage my own schedule.
In December of 2019, my very good friend Ani and her husband Arin came down for their annual visit from Las Vegas. We went out for a casual lunch and little did I know that this very moment would change my life in so many ways.
During our lunch, my friend Ani and I were chatting away. I told her I had just finished a yoga teacher training program and had already started a business plan to open up my own studio. She knew that yoga had changed my life back when I had started dealing with all my health issues. Her first words were, “I wouldn’t mix my passion with business if I were you.” I could have felt discouraged and upset but I knew her advice was coming from a good place. She knew how much I loved yoga and she didn’t want me to lose my love for it. She asked me if I would like to go to Las Vegas so she could train me to become a permanent makeup artist. Given her immense expertise in the industry, I would be foolish to say no to her. I immediately realized this was a fantastic opportunity and I would be crazy to miss out on something that might change my life for the better. Two months later, I flew to Vegas and went through 5 days of intense one-on-one training with her.
Unfortunately, less than a month later, covid lockdowns began and I had some serious thinking to do because of the unknown of the future. I sat my husband down for a serious conversation about my options. Opening up a new business during Covid was risky, but I was already so invested that I decided it was worth taking that risk.
On May 15, 2021, I officially booked my first eyebrow threading client and a few days later I had my first microblading appointment. I was so excited and so nervous and knew right away that I had made the right decision. In October of 2021, Ani’s husband Arin gave me the opportunity to train with him and learn scalp micropigmentation (SMP) – a non-surgical and non-invasive hair loss treatment. It was another opportunity I couldn’t pass on.
One year later and I am running my own business and thriving!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve had a very rough ride throughout the past few years with my endometriosis. I had my third intense 8.5 hour surgery in September 2020 and took that advantage of my recovery time to work on establishing my business. While I was only 3 weeks into recovery, a very brutal war started in Artsakh which is located alongside Armenia. My family roots are Armenian so this war hit me very hard. I, along with the rest of the Armenian diaspora around the world, put our lives on hold and spent every minute of the day focusing on ways to help the country survive. The mental stress and daily horror stories we heard for 44 days made it almost impossible for me to get anything done. I needed time to recover from the mental trauma and to return to my normal lifestyle and state of mind.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My services include eyebrow threading/shaping, microblading, shading, SMP, and tattoo lightening. I’ve learned that there is a tremendous need for eyebrow threading rather than waxing, but very few provide the service. I have years of experience working in the health industry and wanted to continue helping people while bringing out my creative side. Becoming an eyebrow artist has allowed me to blend both. I realized that eyebrows and hair could make or break a person’s confidence level. I am so proud to be able to provide services that ensure my clients walk out with confidence and a smile every time!
So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
I am currently located inside a beautiful salon called Pampr’d Soul located in the heart of Scottsdale. I love knowing that my clients can get their eyebrows and nails done at the same location, giving them the ultimate pampering experience. I also love working on brides that go the extra mile to get their eyebrows done for their special day. I have been collaborating with hairstylists and med spas to help those who may need an alternative hair loss treatment.
