Daily Inspiration: Meet Kat Flanders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Flanders.

Hi Kat, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve been a skin enthusiast for roughly nine years. My passion was born of a necessity to help with my skin. The more products I tried, the worse things became for my skin. In 2019 I created a skincare/self-care brand, Black Leif. I launched it last year, and it did fairly well. However, I put the company on hiatus to fully focus and complete school. I decided becoming an esthetician was where my heart truly lied. I wake up excited to work, and I believe it’s because I’m in a field where I can help people find the beauty in what they have. I know that walk, so I love being able to help others through theirs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Things have not been easy, but is anything worth having easy? Great things take dedication, sacrifice, balance, and rest. When I initially started Riviant, I wasn’t sure what it would be like or how it would work, but I believed in my dream and stuck to it. I manifested my destiny, and I’d be foolish to run from it when things got rough.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in the skin. Yes, it’s a vanity service, a necessary one. It is super important to remember to put yourself first and take care of yourself, even if it’s just for an hour or even if it’s just wax. This body is the only one we have; it takes care of us, so we owe it the same. I get a lot of praise for my energy and engagement. I take pride in making others feel comfortable with me, especially in uncomfortable situations, like intimate waxing. I love the guest service aspect of my profession.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how busy it is here. There’s not anything to do.
Two things I dislike about the city. The implied classism in certain areas and the heat. One, I can tolerate more than the other.
