Today we’d like to introduce you to Hina Imran.
Hi Hina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a Muslim American woman who chose to wear the Hijab (headscarf) at a young age, I always firmly believed that nothing can stop me from achieving my dreams. Hijab is a head covering worn by Muslim women as a devotion to God. It is a reminder of who I am and what my values are. It’s not just a cloth on my head, it’s a part of my identity. The truth is I always wanted to wear it because I love when someone looks at me, they visibly see a Muslim woman. In a world where women are often sexualized, there is something powerful about knowing that others will not judge you based on what you’re wearing or for your looks. They listen more to what is being said. It allows me to unapologetically be myself. Having this mindset from my teenage years, I felt like it empowered me to move forward in all aspects of my life.
The hijab did not prevent me from obtaining my degree in nursing, nor my BSN. It did not prevent me from getting a job at the hospital or at a dialysis clinic. It quite frankly did the contrary, it helped me land amazing positions in the field of nursing. It helped my coworkers understand that the Hijab liberates women, not oppresses them. It allowed me to get accepted into the Nurse Practitioner program and continue to pursue my career. When people see a woman who takes her faith seriously and prioritizes it above anything else, they respect that. This hijab not only helped me through my nursing career, but it inspired me to start blogging on my social media platforms (Sincerely Hina) about modest fashion, life tips, hijab and nursing. I want other women who value modesty to know that nothing should come in the way of going after your dreams. If you believe in something, keep your head held high and know that God will always have your back.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a nurse who wears the hijab and deals with patients on a daily basis, I definitely get my fair share of stares and glares. I used to take it so personally until I realized that people do not mean harm. They actually just do not know what the hijab means and are curious. Some are also staring because they think the hijab is so beautiful! I got this so many times that now I know that when they stare, it’s either one of the two. I have rarely received rude comments about my hijab, and even if I did, I would educate them in a kind manner.
Another struggle I have faced while wearing the Hijab was finding modest clothing to wear! It used to be so hard to find cute modest clothing which is one of the reasons why I started my Sincerely Hina YouTube channel. My goal was to help other women achieve their dreams while staying true to their modesty. Fortunately, since I started my blog I have helped so many of my friends and women from around the world find outfits that are cute, chic and modest!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Professionally, I’m a Registered Nurse who is pursuing a Nurse Practitioner degree. I currently work full-time at a clinic in Arizona while I complete the NP program. Creatively, I love blogging on YouTube and Instagram where I share my journey as a Registered Nurse, share recipes, do travel vlogs, promote modest fashion brands and film book reviews. I am most proud of my ability to keep moving forward in my profession as well as my creative hustles. I love sharing pieces of my life in hopes of inspiring others to go after their dreams and pursue their career and life goals!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The one quality that I feel is most important in coming this far is faith. Faith in God. Faith in myself. Faith in my career. Ultimately, the foundation of everything that I do is for the sake of God. I do believe that when your purpose is for the greater good, you move forward smoothly and swiftly. Believing in myself no matter how tired I am, no matter how rigorous the Nurse Practitioner program is and no matter how time-consuming it is to edit videos for Sincerely Hina. I believe in what I do and have faith in my hard work. Lastly, there is nothing like helping those who need it most. Having faith in my career to care for vulnerable patients is something that motivates me every day to move forward as a Nurse Practitioner.
