Conversations with Skyler White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler White.

Hi Skyler, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had always loved all the different parts of the wedding industry. From the florals and photography to the timelines and decor, I wanted a hand in it all. So I started by working at multiple bridal salons in the area during high school and when I got to college, I knew event planning was my calling. My freshman year, I got my first internship with a wedding planning company and since then, I’ve never looked back! I have worked with some amazing planners, venues and even a wedding market and gained so much knowledge from them all. When I graduated from ASU in 2020, my goal was to be a full-time planner. However, the pandemic had different plans for me and I had to shift over to something a bit different! Girl About Town had always been on my radar and when I had nowhere else to turn, I finally reached out to Meghan and it was the best decision I could have made! In a way, I think Girl About Town and I found each other when we both needed something the most and it could not have worked out better!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my biggest struggles so far has just been graduating during a pandemic and wanting to be in the events industry! Luckily I had my families support at the time so I was able to find a job that I was really passionate about and not just settle because events were not happening. I am so thankful now that all events are on the rise and we get to help more people celebrate one of the happiest times of their lives!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Here at Girl About Town, I am the Event Coordinator, Sales lead and Air bnb stylist! I work with every single client from start to finish. Whether you are a bachelorette, bachelor, birthday babe or traveling for fun Girl About Town offers services that will make your trip to Scottsdale the best yet!

My day to day consists of emailing and talking on the phone with clients, planning their trip to Scottsdale and executing the events. Sometimes things can get hectic planning 15 groups in one weekend but it never gets boring and I love that about this job.

We also style air bnbs to help them form a brand and unique style that will get them noticed and rented out year-round. I love to style houses that have a distinct and fun theme that I know our event groups will love. One of my favorite parts of it all is seeing the home go from empty to fully designed and booked up!

I am most proud of increasing our sales by three times the amount of last year in my first year on the job! I had never thought of myself as a saleswoman but I have found that I really do enjoy it and I am proud of pushing myself to be the best I can be at it!

People would probably say I am best know for my creative eye and planning skills. Creating new themes and backdrops for our groups to rent from us either by hand or putting together items from other small businesses is something I am passionate about!
