Conversations with Madeline Hahn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Hahn.

Hi Madeline, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My affinity for makeup started at a fairly young age. I remember in middle school when I’d take my mom’s eyeshadow trios and create a rainbow masterpiece on my eyelids. Or when I would borrow her eyeliner and draw faux stitches across my eyebrows or mouth, trying to be edgy. I even wore that look to a car meet, lol! I had never considered makeup as a career until I was 18. By that point, I had started trying to become good at it, and once I felt confident enough, I started offering makeovers to all my friends. I fell in love with the process of transforming people. Taking these beautiful blank canvases and accentuating the beauty already in front of me, not to mention the validation from the client when they lift the mirror and see the final result to let out a gasp or an “Oh my god!!” is so sweet. Over the last 5 years, I started building my little (but mighty!) empire. I started creating content on Instagram after a few years of that and a little hiatus to have my son adjust to motherhood. I also started freelancing and creating TikTok! Within the last two years of being a freelance makeup artist, I’ve had the opportunity to do makeup for all different types of events, including weddings, family events, styled photoshoots, pole fitness competitions, maternity, and boudoir. I always have the gears turning in my mind for what’s next with this passion of mine. And I’m looking forward to the opportunities in my future!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had my fair share of challenges; one of the biggest (that sometimes still presents itself) is the societal pressure to maintain social media activity, to be trendy, and have ‘so many’ followers. Being an authentic and original human is important to me, and I want my brand/socials to represent that. Outside of the mental challenges, I am also (what I consider to be) a young mom. Finding not just the time for makeup but my passion for makeup after becoming a mommy was difficult for me; there was a moment when I found myself questioning if I’d ever get back into it. Thankfully I found my footing again, ordered some new equipment for my beauty room, and gave it a Lil makeover. Reinventing my space re-inspired me, and I started booking clients!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a freelance makeup artist and content creator! My top favorite makeup to do is creative/costume-like makeup. I love creepy clown makeup and skull faces; I’m a major sucker for bold glam. I love a fuller lash, glitter, and dark creases! I’m most proud of my authenticity, it’s been a slow climb as far as the followers go, but I am grateful to say I’ve never had a nightmare client. Every person I’ve held a makeup brush to has filled my cup in some way or another. Some have even turned into good friends. I put my entire heart into what I do!!

Who else deserves credit for your story?
My partner, Victor, spent countless hours hanging out with and entertaining our son so I could film a tutorial, do a look, drive to a client, etc. He picked up the exact paint I wanted for my accent wall in my beauty room, and even after a long 12hr shift, he helped me paint it that night! He put up my decorations and bought my lighting equipment. He has an opinion on my makeup and how I should do others’ makeup. His support goes beyond anything I can express.

My girlies:
1. Amanda. She is quite literally my cheerleader. She makes me feel like an absolute celebrity, one of my top hype people, and she never fails to help me see my worth and what I’m capable of.
2. Lexi. As a fellow Tucson creative and business owner, Lexi gets it. Her brain is beautiful, and knowing her inspires me to become more. She just gets me.

I am so fortunate to have an army of people who support me, from past neighbors, distant family, old friends from high school, etc. It doesn’t matter how far apart we’ve grown, thank you! I want you guys to know I see you too.
