Conversations with Leteecia Hughes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leteecia Hughes.

Hi Leteecia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I always knew I loved others. Had a passion for myself and other people. And then, enjoying how we interact in groups. I knew I wanted to do nails when I was 13. My Momma had a nail girl that came to the crib a few times. I was like, “wow, this is cool.” I never said anything. Journeyed on through high school and by Junior year, EVIT
*(iykyn), was introduced but I didn’t think any more deeply about completing the nail program, and being able to go right into working as a nail tech.
Fast forward, went to college, worked in the helping professions for a LONG time. DCS, behavioral health, urgent care. Hahahaha… that last one will always be funny to me. 3 years ago I quit my job working with kids and motivating them to follow their dreams, and realized mine. Honeywhodoyournails was born, and the rest is now history..

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has definitely NOT been a smooth road. I have been broke and humbled, okay?! I drove Lyft for money while in nail school, had to move out of this big nice house I’d just rented w the homie. Shout out to her for forgiving me for that. Just the unknowing what I once knew, was a struggle. Getting out of that mindset that I had to work for someone else for the rest of my life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the Honey, who does your nails. I am a nail technician, I don’t particularly say Im an artist because I am not the tech to come to if you want intricate designs, characters, etc. BUT YOU CAN COME TO THE SPOT AND GET THAT WORK FROM ANY OF THE OTHER TECHS AT: The Spot Beauty.
I specialize in natural nail care and nail health. Most of my clients come to me because they know Im going to get their nails healthy, provide them with a great conversation (I have my Masters in Professional Counseling too), and ultimately provide a quality experience that isnt “just nails.”
Im really proud that I chose to listen to my inner voice and find something I love to do versus the feelings of moral obligation to others. Working for yourself is no easy feat but one that should be taken when you’re ready. Because you will have to work, and hard. It will be lonely but you wont be alone, thank you God and my angels.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
My most important lesson has been to go where you’re wanted. Find people that want you around, a place to ground yourself if you choose to work in a shared space.
A place to grow your business and grow yourself simultaneously. And make sure that all of the choices you make, make you better.
