Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackson Keehn.
Hi Jackson, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I’ve always been fascinated with art. They were always the classes in school that kept me most engaged and hungry for more. In my early 20s, I began collecting tattoos and made it my goal to learn how to translate my art to skin.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, there have been times when I’ve been plagued by self-doubt. In 2014 it was necessary to radically change the way I live. I got sober and stepped away from tattooing and spent the next couple of years finding the discipline and structure that I lacked in my early 20s.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in black and grey realism tattooing. Over the last year, I’ve made it my mission to push the envelope on every single piece I do. I think the thing that sets me apart is I try to approach every single tattoo with the mindset of being better than my last. I try to be hospitable and collaborate with my clients.
I love the conversation with the person in my chair. I learn more about their lives, their story, and what brought them to this moment. At the end of the day, my business is people. I connect and serve people. In the process of doing that, we’ve created some cool tattoos.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Professionally there are two huge lessons I’ve learned. First, discipline; doing the hard stuff, the things I don’t want to do, and allowing those disciplines to shape me. Second, is vulnerability. The ability to ask questions, be curious and never convince me that there isn’t more I can learn. I’ve had the pleasure of learning that we all have unique stories and most of those stories are more similar than different.
