Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth (Izzy) Shreves.
Hi Elizabeth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started making growth charts when a family friend found out she was having twins! I thought it would be a cute gift so I went for it, but I didn’t have a Cricut Maker yet so I printed the images on wax paper to transfer them to the wood haha.
My best friend and husband got me a Cricut Maker for my birthday one year and that helped me cut out stencils and paint with many crisper lines. I’m still making those original wood growth charts today but I also offer canvas growth charts, which I sew myself, that are much more friendly if you move a lot. In 2022 I started hand painting logos thanks to Knotted Up by Carely and it had been so fun that these epoxy logo signs have stayed on the “menu”.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a slow road. I just started putting my work really out there last year. And now it feels best to get more work to do so I am very excited to see where this year goes!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently a stay-at-home mom trying to make money working for myself at home with my son vs being at a 9-5. I used to work an office job and now my work comes in from mostly Instagram haha I never would have thought that.
And I never thought I’d enjoy creating content either! It’s awesome that my work materials now are art supplies haha
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Taking my time. Anything rushed just never turns out.
And working with epoxy you learn to be patient. If I do the final layer of epoxy and notice a flaw once it’s cured, I’m gonna sand it down and do the epoxy all over again and wait for it to cure all over again just to get it as perfect as possible! But I have also learned walking away from your project when you’ve been looking at it too long is necessary!
