Conversations with Carrie Green-Zinn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Green-Zinn.

Hi Carrie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve had many different starts and pivots in my life that have culminated in where I am today. These starts have all had a similar thread, which resulted in my most recent endeavors as a travel blogger and content creator.

I’ve always been a people person and have loved dancing and traveling. A deep sense of wanderlust combined with a need to be creative has long been part of my DNA. I used those skills to be a dancer and help heal others. I was a psychotherapist and used dance therapy to support psychiatric patients through their darkest times. That career moved me across the country, where I met my husband and started our family. Talk about fulfillment! A job I loved, raising our daughters in a great community and helping to manage my husband’s music career. What could be better?

It quickly became apparent that we also wanted our brilliant and creative girls to experience the beauty of travel. So, I pivoted again to School Psychology, which allowed me to have the summers off with the kids to travel. Be careful what you wish for because they grew up loving to travel and have since flown the nest!

Turning 60 during the pandemic was just the catalyst I needed to figure out my next move. As an empty nester with retirement to look forward to, I became determined to feed my creative soul with travel, writing, and photography. I became obsessed with following travel bloggers. These people got paid to travel, take photos, and write about it. It sounded like a dream. I dove in and created something I am proud of.

I’m not yet retired, but having a full-time job hasn’t slowed me down! The past 20 months have been incredible. My website is filled with travel blogs, pictures, and tips, which I love to share. My labor of love rewards me creatively and keeps me connected to people who also love travel. I love a community and am part of one now that is exciting and inspirational. I’m regularly reminded that I’m in a new developmental phase that is rich and exciting. I honestly don’t know why people think of retirement as a time to wind down because we are just gearing up for a lot of productive, creative, and fun times!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not at all been a smooth road! The learning curve is huge for me. It’s easy to love to travel, write about the places I’ve been, and edit the photos I love to take. What is very challenging is learning the website’s technology, the social media trends, and systems, and entering the modern era as a middle-aged baby boomer! Learning WordPress and Google SEO is quite the journey. Then add Instagram and TikTok on top of that, and it’s a constant barrage of “Oh My Gawd, Mom?” What comes naturally for the millennials is like teaching rocket science to me.

Another big struggle is putting myself in photos, in words, and in the public eye. Each time I receive interest, questions, and positive feedback from my readers, it’s a reminder that I am on the right track! I feel so proud of my accomplishments because this project requires trust and confidence that doesn’t always come easily.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
As a travel blogger, I can bring my love of travel to others and inspire them to go places they may not have thought of and seize opportunities they may not have known existed. I specialize in all kinds of travel. I don’t discriminate! I love hiking in National Parks just as much as dining in European cafes. Long trips, short getaways, I’m up for it all. I have said many times that travel brings people and cultures together in ways the world desperately needs. I’ve done my job if I can help people step out of their comfort zones and experience something new.

I do the research, take the trip, and then give you tips and tools to make your adventure more enjoyable. With this approach, I have built a following on my website and social media platforms, who use my information to be inspired and try on a new place. I think my life experience sets me apart. As an empty nested traveler, I have a lot to offer young, family, and female travelers. I am a woman who loves her life as a mother, partner, and professional and wants to see the world as a reward for all that hard work, but mostly because I know how travel enhances, inspires, and enriches people’s lives.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I have been able to work with some travel brands and would love to do more of that. If I use it and love it, I am more than happy to recommend it. I love promoting a product I use and a place I enjoy visiting. This post-pandemic world of travel is booming. I think the world has a collective built-up wanderlust, making it an excellent time for travel brands to use creators and bloggers like me to help spread the word.
