Conversations with Alicia Haygood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Haygood.

Hi Alicia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journalism career 15 years ago in Atlanta, GA. Prior to that, I was the young child staying up late to watch the evening news & long-format news shows. I was fascinated by people’s stories. I never wanted to do anything else but work behind the scenes of T.V. From sports programming to international news, then television agency work, I LOVED my career.

When my family and I moved to Scottsdale in the summer of 2019, I shifted from T.V. to podcasting. After working for my neighborhood podcast for 1.5 years, I bought out the company I was working for. I then launched the Scottsdale Vibes Podcast in May of 2021.

Storytelling is a passion of mine. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. Many people don’t realize the impact their own story can have. I like bringing that out of them. My goal is to bring awareness to the people, places, and events happening in our community. Scottsdale is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever lived. Scottsdale is a melting pot of success. That’s what drives me each week to bring you a new story.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I decided to buy out my old company, I was so scared of failure that I wouldn’t even take the leap for success. To combat this, I kept asking everyone, “How did you deal with failure?” so I could learn from them and not make the same mistakes. I asked a close friend this question who replied with, “Why are you asking about people’s failure instead of asking about their journey to success?” The light bulb went off. I shifted my mind and searched for success. Without taking a risk or leap, how would I become the business owner I knew I could be?

I took the leap and haven’t looked back since. I give myself grace and ask for help constantly. I make sure I surround myself with successful people and constantly keep learning from others. I’m always looking for ways to grow. I’m a huge believer in “Collaboration not Competition” which has really helped me grow this year.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have 2 weekly podcasts, Scottsdale Vibes Podcast and Parenting Unfiltered. I also consult for a podcasting company to help others launch their podcasts.

I’m a storyteller. I love being in the know and sharing my knowledge with others. I’m a connector. I love bringing people together that may not have known each other otherwise.

I’m a socializer. I love the art of conversation. Looking someone in the eyes, smiling at them, and making them feel heard and important.

These sort of things don’t occur like it used to since technology took over our lives. We all have so much to say and share with the world. I like giving a people a platform to be heard and tell their story.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
The people!!! I genuinely love the people that live in Scottsdale. I came up with the name Scottsdale Vibes because the vibe in Scottsdale really is one-of-a-kind. Being that so many people moved here from other states, you never hear the same story twice. (except for maybe that they’re from Ohio or Chicago).  I haven’t found anything to dislike except for the months from June-September. And even then, I can still find the beauty of this great city.
