Community Highlights: Meet Tanae Mitchell of Nipseye Loc Trap LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanae Mitchell.

Hi Tanae, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started doing locs back home in Atlanta just doing my cousins and real close friends locs . And noticed I actually liked & have a talent for doing locs.! Learning the history of locs and meaning behind the journey of locs grew my passion for wanting to continue to do other people locs . I enjoyed the smile on my clients faces after I would finish doing their hair . The push from friends and family gave me the courage to actually pursue this as a career . I continue to do locs on this side as I still worked a 9-5 else where but that wasn’t making me happy . I always wanted to own my business. I started networking with an associate in Az about the demand for people in the dreadlock industry. I was convinced there was opportunities out here for me to grow & to follow my dreams of doing locs full time as a career. In April 2018 I packed my bags and moved to Mesa, Az . I started completely over that year not knowing anyone for real & leaving my family & friends in Ga . I continued to network and grow my clientele all over the valley being a mobile loctician as I worked another 9-5 again . In Oct 2019 I made another big decision in my life to go full time doing locs after considering so many things even thinking about the possibilities over failing and not having enough clientele to succeed . solely depending on one income I kept my head high and faith strong through all the struggles I went through to get to where I am today from living out my car with my dog to living out of an extended stay then to my own Apartment and Then As of Oct 2021 I Am The Proud Owner Of Nipseye Loc Trap LLC in Phx , Az I am so grateful my client family out here ! I wouldn’t be nowhere without them! Thank You To Everyone Who Has Ever Supported Me !

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In Oct 2019 I made another big decision in my life to go full time doing locs after considering so many things even thinking about the possibilities over failing and not having enough clientele to succeed . solely depending on one income I kept my head high and faith strong through all the struggles I went through to get to where I am today from living out my car with my dog to living out of an extended stay then to my own Apartment and Then As of Oct 2021 I Am The Proud Owner Of Nipseye Loc Trap LLC in Phx , Az Don’t get me wrong there were days literally days I wouldn’t have no appts literally wanting to give up and just go get an 9-5 . But my pride wouldn’t let me give up on myself I had something to prove to myself … that I could make it I can make name for myself I can be as big as I Want Myself To Be By My Grind & Determination!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Nipseye Loc Trap LLC specializes in bringing clients back to life, leaving my chair feeling and looking good. They always leave saying “Nipseye got me right” reason I use the hashtag #NipseyeGetMeRight . Nipseye Loc Trap gives you southern hospitality with a west coast swing. I’m known for my precise parts, using only black owned products not only sets me apart from others but keeps the money circulating in our community. I’m most proud of the growth I’ve experience thus far, going from a few clients out the month to being booked out weeks in advance, the continued support from my clients and there referrals. What I want the readers to know about Nipseye Loc Trap LLC, it’s not only a place to come and get your locs maintained, but also a safe haven, where you can vent, wine down with a cocktail and just let your hair down, you walk in as a client and leave out as family.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I can see the Dreadlock Industry growing more and more every year especially with more people wanting to go natural & with Arizona being a more free spirited state dreadlocks can be apart of that journey .
