Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Kenger.
Patrick, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was younger, “Just be yourself” was the common mantra among teachers and mothers, but if you weren’t happy with how you looked, that saying did you little good. I became fascinated with style and fashion to change that. It was what I considered to be fun. I consumed stacks of books and loads of information on whatever was available on men’s style, fitness, etiquette, dating, etc., and there was lots of trial and error. I was probably the only freshman in high school who had subscriptions to GQ, Men’s Health, and Details magazine simultaneously. My passion for all this continued through college, where I studied human communication. I was hooked on the psychology of interpersonal relationships, and the effects of non-verbal behavior, such as how we dress and how being attractive can influence everything around us.
During this time in college, I became somewhat of an authority on all things men’s grooming and style for people close by – Friends started coming to me for advice. My buddies would ask me to go shopping with them. I would be asked what to wear on a first date, etc. It was great to help other guys look and feel great. I never thought something I nerd out over for myself would have benefited other guys.
Today, that’s still what I enjoy doing most, although I have a hand now in consulting for brands, training stylists, and working with guys in group settings. As a personal stylist and image consultant, I’ve written for and consulted on major men’s media outlets like Ask Men, Men’s Journal, Men’s Health, Bloomberg, NBC, etc. I’ve worked with best-selling authors, TED speakers, and successful entrepreneurs to help them connect with their audiences, helped great guys meet great gals. Most importantly – I’ve helped everyday guys streamline their wardrobes with stylish clothing and help them look and feel great every day.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first years in business were the most challenging. I’m about eight years old, but in the beginning, I was working another job and doing this on the side. I didn’t have much business experience and had to learn all that – how to market, pay taxes, hire people, etc. It all was a challenge but a lot of fun. What’s great about entrepreneurship is that no two days are the same, even if you’re doing the same type of work. There are always curveballs thrown that you have to try and navigate, and now I thrive on that and always trying to improve the business and serve more clients at a higher/deeper level.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pivot Image Consulting?
I do personal styling 1-on-1 for men from around the world (virtually) and around the US (in-person). As a certified and award-winning men’s stylist, I’ve helped hundreds of guys navigate their style challenges. We specialize in menswear, helping develop their style and giving them personalized roadmaps and recommendations to look their best. It’s a style made into a science – distilling down what works for a guy and showing him why, and then efficiently getting him into those clothes, focusing on improving the way his clothing fits, making sure the colors enhance his complexion, and that he has suitable quality clothing for everything he needs in life.
