Community Highlights: Meet Elizabeth Joseph of Be More Clean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Joseph.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was a pretty typical 20-something year old. I was a bartender at a local pub and partied and drank every chance I got. I didn’t necessarily have any serious health issues, nor was I overweight. I had hemorrhoids frequently and didn’t have regular bowel movements, which at the time I thought was normal. Unfortunately, many allopathic doctors will still tell you that it is normal for people to have varying frequencies of bowel movements. This is NOT TRUE! After watching the Food Inc documentary, I was shocked at what I had learned about how corrupt the pharmaceutical industry and FDA. The next few years I went down rabbit holes of research watching more documentaries, gathering books, attending local seminars, traveling to expos, summits and even meeting, interviewing and eventually working for and with, MD’s, and ND’s. I learned about the healing powers of plants, living foods, and how doctors like Max Gerson and others had been successfully reversing all types of cancers and that there was a real effort to silence and censor his, and others like him, work.

Naturally, I started to apply some of what I’d learned about health on myself, my family and anyone was willing. But there was a lot of trials and tribulations. I learned the hard way, there is a proper way to cleanse and break fasts and ended up with hypoglycemia. After a while my lifestyle had naturally evolved into a chemical free, organic, lifestyle and dove headfirst into a raw, living foods diet. After learning about the healing power of living foods, I experienced in first hand and saw all my issues slowly disappear. In December of 2013, my best friend since 7th grade, passed away. I crumbled. I began to binge and emotionally eat cancer causing, inflammatory foods, even though I knew better. I felt like something was missing I was overwhelmed and miserable. The next month I attended the Raw Living Expo in Thousand Oaks, California. When people ask why representation matters, this is why. This expo was the first time in my life I had met young, minority entrepreneurs. I went to this expo feeling lost. I came back to Arizona feeling inspired and focused.

I quit my bar job and started Be More Raw LLC. I stopped pursuing my degree in computer programming and changed schools to attend Southwest College of Healing Arts where I became certified in Holistic Nutrition, and shortly after began training to become a Colon Hydrotherapist. After years of working odd jobs and continuing in the service industry and practicing as holistic health specialist part time, I finally made my dream of helping others heal my full time gig. After being in the Holistic Space for a few years, it was obvious to notice the lack of diversity at these events. This lack of representation led me to create Melanin Moms Natural Expo and eventually the Melanin Natural Monthly Market.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the struggles I’ve faced along the way were my best friend’s passing, being in an abusive relationship, and facing my own health issues including PTSD, anxiety, hormonal issues, Hypoglycemia and a parasite infection. These all turned out to be blessings, because they led to me where I am now. If it wasn’t for me getting so sick and not being able to poop for months, due to the parasite infection, I wouldn’t be able to help others with the same issue. My blood sugar issues have helped me create my own Blood Sugar Balance guide and reverse my fathers’ diabetes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Be More Raw LLC was the parent company of Be More Clean: Colon Hydrotherapy and now work together under one roof. We are unlike any other colon hydrotherapy spa you have ever been to in Arizona. We truly care about each and every client’s healing. We are here to transform people’s lives. We offer more than gentle, sensitive and effective colon hydrotherapy and infrared sauna sessions. Our inclusive cleanses include expert guidance, weekly handouts, videos, accountability, educational PDFs, and fresh pressed, organic juices delivered right to your home. When people leave our Colonic and Nutrition Spa, they don’t just leave feeling lighter, and cleaner; they all leave with specific guidance, new information, and maybe even a documentary recommendation to help continue their journey after they leave.

What’s next?
Our plans for the future include expansion into a larger facility. We want to offer many holistic modalities including an on site ND, muscle testing, yoga, Holistic Nutrition & Organic Lifestyle workshops and programs, and IV therapies all under one roof. Melanin Moms Natural Expo also has plans for the future to create a Holistic, Organic, Montessori and Waldorf inspired school that celebrates diversity and Ethnic history. The school would be 100% synthetic toxic chemical free, using only natural and healthy cleaners, serving whole food, plant based, organic and healthy meals. Like most Montessori inspired schools, we will have an interactive garden and small farm for the children to participate in.
