Community Highlights: Meet Ashlee Ruehs of Ashlee’s Pastry Creations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Ruehs.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for baking began when I was around 8 years old. I was always baking something delicious with my mom or grandma. I took that love of baking and attended Johnson & Wales University in Denver, CO. I obtained two degrees: an Associates in Baking & Pastry Arts, and a Bachelor’s in Food Service Management. I also earned a certificate in Small Business Consulting. In mid-2020, I decided to move back to my hometown to start my own business. I started my business part-time and continued to work in the industry at local restaurants. I became the first Pastry Chef at a local restaurant in New River, AZ where I continued to grow and learn about small businesses. I have started working farmers markets to begin expanding my business. I recently left my job at the restaurant to take my business full-time!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Beginning this business has not been easy. There were times that it was difficult to pull in business or pull off orders while working full-time in the restaurant industry. I worked and continue to work long days and late nights.

As you know, we’re big fans of Ashlee’s Pastry Creations. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in creating memories through food. I love being a part of special events by curating a beautiful cake or dessert table. I also love connecting with the community through farmers markets. I stand behind my product and will never sacrifice quality. I always use quality ingredients in my desserts because I believe that it truly makes the difference. My cinnamon rolls have quickly become the most popular item at farmers markets!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Creating beautiful and delicious edible art is what makes me happy. However, what makes me happiest is seeing the reaction and smiles on my customers faces’ when they eat what I created is the most rewarding!
