Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Young and Justice Tatum. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Words & Wine is a podcast created by Tatiana Young and Justice Tatum. Two military kids that grew up in the west valley of Arizona and both graduated from Verrado High School as the first graduating class in 2010! We have been friends ever since and shortly after college, we reconnected to start producing our own art and poetry-style events around Phoenix. Justice Tatum an ASU alumni and well-known poet nationwide and Tatiana Young an event producer to some of the biggest fashion shows and art events in Phoenix put together their own series of events in 2016 alongside a longtime friend Brandon Greer aka MyBoyB.
After over a year of cultivating creative showcases and art shows, we decided to collaborate on a podcast that still created a space for individuals to express themselves. Words & Wine was birthed in Jan 2020 a podcast where we dive deep into having intimate discussions over daily life topics such as relationships, career & community while enjoying our favorite glass of wine/beverage of choice. Today being 2021 and looking back on how we transitioned into podcasting two months before the world shut down felt like the right place at the right time. We wrapped up our third season this spring and are now starting to film season 4 which will drop this October.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting anything of your own, you will always face some challenges because it’s something you are learning as you go. I think the misconception about podcasting is it just takes a microphone and a camera, that it’s! When so much more goes into producing one such as sound, set up, audio, video, etc. We started off filming on our iPhones and did very basic video editing that we knew how to do. We ended up wearing the producing, creating and hosting hat which took a lot of our time that we recognized after Season 2. Season 3 is when we hired our first videographer/producer which took a load off of us so we can continue to create. We learned pretty quickly that you need to always have a team, it can be a small team but it’s very necessary when building a brand.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Tatiana’s Answer: Full time Account Director for a staffing agency where I work alongside some of the biggest nationwide brands/campaigns. Part-time co-host to Words & Wine podcast which is very therapeutic for me and something I’m most proud of. To be able to collaborate ideas, plan, create and fully produce a show is an accomplishment all by itself.
Justice’s Answer: I am a project analyst for a leading institution in the banking financial services industry. I am a part-time co-host of words & wine. I love the art of conversation so being able to dialogue various topics and understand a perspective that possibly differs from my own is something I enjoy doing with Tatiana.
How do you define success?
I believe success is having fulfillment in what it is you’re doing.
