Today we’d like to introduce you to Shari Rowe.
Shari, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Growing up here in Arizona, I spent a lot of time outdoors, horseback riding, camping, and just enjoying this beautiful place. As a kid, I have such distinct memories of being out riding by myself, writing melodies to the rhythm of the horse’s hooves. As songwriting and performing have become my career, the Southwest continues to inspire me.
My earliest memories include “living room concerts” with my sisters. We were always singing and performing, gathering the family to be our audience on the couch. I honestly can’t remember a time in my life when music wasn’t essential, whether it was speaking to me or through me.
Those childhood shows led to singing competitions as a teenager, learning about harmonies, singing in church, and starting to take a more serious look at writing. My sisters and I began touring together in Contemporary Christian Music, and it was clear to me that music, as a career, was meant to be.
As a solo artist, Country Music was the most natural place for me to land. I was raised on it, it resonates with me, and I love the community- the fans and the friends I’ve made in the industry.
My husband, Kevin, and I met through music, and it continues to take us across the country and overseas, playing shows, writing, recording, and releasing new projects. Things have grown considerably over the last couple of years. I feel blessed to be sharing stages with artists who I have great respect for, like Wynonna, Reba, Diamond Rio, and many others. I’ve got a new single on the radio and a list of shows coming up! On top of it all, these opportunities have given me a platform to support organizations that are doing so much good in the world. I am extremely grateful.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
People often ask if I prefer performing over recording or vice versa. I love both for different reasons. Connecting with people is the ultimate goal for me. Writing leads to recording, which leads to performance. That live experience, where I have a chance to build a relationship with people face to face, is something that I’m hooked on. When everything comes together the right way, you can feel it the room – that feeling that you’ve connected. Writing and co-writing is a beautiful experience. Crafting words together with melodies and sharing ideas, then hearing a song come to life in the studio is such a fulfilling process. Country music, at it’s best, should have heart. I hope people can find themselves in my music; that they can sense my sincerity, and that they feel something when they listen.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
There are so many talented artists who are genuinely gifted people. It can be a challenge rising above and being heard. It takes constant dedication and a strong team of people who believe in you, who are standing in your corner. There’s a business side to reaching fans. Finding ways, as a songwriter in a streaming world, to earn a living requires a lot of mental energy and hard work. It’s definitely possible, though, and absolutely worth it! Passion continues to drive us to create.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Come to shows, stream, download, connect on social media, request on the radio… I love hearing from people and meeting them at concerts!
My music is available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Tidal and anywhere music is available online.
