Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruby Sandoval.
Hi Ruby, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I was always the girl with a camera. It started with a disposable camera, then slowly transitioned towards a professional one. Simultaneously, I didn’t know what to think about love. The only marriage I could look up to was my grandparents. I could tell they were so in love and still enjoyed being together after many years. My Nana would always advise me on relationships, but unfortunately, we lost her too soon. Shortly after, I put up a wall I thought would never be broken down.
A few years later, I moved to Tucson, met my now-husband, and fell head over heels. I didn’t believe in love at first sight, but meeting Chach proved otherwise. I didn’t believe in marriage, but he made me hope someday we’d say, “I do.” He showed me that true love does exist & it doesn’t have to be complicated. One year later, I answered “yes” to the one question I never thought I’d be saying “yes” to. “Will you marry me?”
After planning our wedding and getting married, I wanted others to have what we still have – a fun, happy, healthy marriage. Of course, I know that isn’t the case for everyone, and of course, every relationship has its ups and downs, but we can make an impact.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It most certainly has been a challenging road. Nevertheless, I decided to enter the wedding industry at the beginning of 2020. We all know what happened! The whole world shut down, we couldn’t see people, and it was a challenging year for everyone. But I didn’t let this get in the way.
As I mentioned, I am constantly investing in education, which allowed me to hone in on areas that needed improvement. In addition, it allowed me to take the time needed to design a workflow that better serves my clients and my lifestyle. Because of this, I can now spend the weekends dedicated to my family when I’m not shooting a wedding instead of trying to respond to emails.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in family and wedding photography. Of course, it’s no secret that wedding photographers love capturing love and emotions. Still, I like to take the same approach as a wedding when it comes to families.
Regardless of what your family looks like, I like to make it an experience. I understand that many people dislike getting their pictures taken, which is why I have them focus on each other.
I have them play games and interact with each other. If it’s a family with children, I have them step aside for a few minutes and give the parents a moment. Then, I try my best to bring out each child’s personality and capture that moment while also capturing them as they are. The missing front tooth. The freckles on their cheeks. Their tiny feet and hands. Of course, we get that image of everyone smiling and looking at the camera, but the rest of our time together is focused on creating and preserving memories.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
“I’d like to thank me….” Just kidding. I am very fortunate to have a great support system. My husband has been my biggest supporter from day one and continues to encourage me when I feel down. Although my family initially didn’t understand how photography could be an actual business or why I was doing it, they’re always there when I need them (especially when I need them to take care of my kids).
There have been wedding vendors that have played such an essential role in my photography career. Jessica from J. Robertson Events. Dusty, from Element Design and Events. Karina from KR Beauty Studi. And Gigi from Gigi Bridal Boutique. Whenever one of us comes up with an idea for a styled shoot, we are ready to jump in, no questions asked! I am continuously building relationships with different vendors, but these ladies will always hold a special place in my heart.
And, of course, my gems! I call my clients my gems because I truly treasure them. They are so supportive and always refer me to their family and friends! I most certainly wouldn’t be here without them.
