Check Out Manny Fimbres’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manny Fimbres.

Hi Manny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began working in the skincare industry 15 years ago, as a graphic designer at when I developed an interest in what defines great skincare, getting to know ingredients and formulations, and what works with different kinds of skin types. It was all great until my doctor said “Let’s talk about Cancer.” To hear that word from your doctor really stops you in your tracks. It turns your life upside down. When I was diagnosed, I was in disbelief. How could this happen? What can I do now? I didn’t realize at the time that our skin is a clear mirrored reflection of our inner being.

For most of my life, I ignored how many unnatural chemicals we come into contact with and literally put on and in our bodies during daily life inside and outside. After my cancer diagnosis, I took stock of what I was subjecting my body to and worked to understand how to safely detox my body from these substances. I learned about what these chemicals can do to us and even how my mind and emotions may be suppressing my immune system.

It was during the cancer treatments that I also started to notice the numbers 11:11, in sequence (Which is pretty much what our brand is based on) was ever-present, even ‘annoyingly’ ever-present, and intriguingly putting me through rabbit-hole after rabbit-hole wanting to understand “the sign.” Learning all the concepts around common beliefs, I chose to stick to the theory that 11:11 was a sign of synchronicity with mind-body-spirit, a conscious balance, a mindful harmony of sorts.

I can say now that I am trying as hard as I can to reach a balance, and that has become important and proven effective when battling illnesses.

After beating cancer, I pushed myself to have a healthy diet for the inside, and soothing natural ingredients for the outside, to assist in maintaining balance. It was through that process that I decided to launch this healthy skincare company to help everyone maintain their balance and stop putting unnatural chemicals on their bodies. After all, when the mind and body are in synch, we are truly healthy and this creates a glow from within that cannot be denied.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Launching a Brand / Business is never smooth, but that is where the joy is if you want to look at it that way, in overcoming challenges as best as you can. Starting a business is a difficult endeavor. It is critical to identify your challenges and set a plan for how to tackle them. Despite all of the positives, building your own business has its difficulties. Sometimes these challenges seem bigger than they really are, and sometimes they keep us from fully pursuing an idea. As most small business owners will tell you, though, the risks and challenges are usually worth the rewards. It’s worth finding solutions to these challenges and ways to handle the risks so you can realize your dream.

For me some of the challenges were running the show alone, finding creative ways for funding without leaping into debt, getting – and staying – organized and on track, and most importantly, maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Earned my experience working in the design field for more than 20 years. With a background in Architecture and Graphic Design, I’ve worked with companies like Haworth, Herman Miller, Steelcase (all about interior office furnishings), CDA Arquitectos (in Mexico), Univision Communications, Digi-cards, as well as with diverse personalities in the entertainment/media field.

I like the problem-solving aspect of design. My philosophy has always been to first make things smart and then make them pretty. That’s my work mantra, regardless of whether it’s an illustration of the things I’m doing now, such as for photoshoots, promotional concepts, product development, marketing art, decorative pieces, or print. Whatever limitations there are on the size, the color, the price point, I still enjoy trying to make it look visually appealing within those constraints.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I grew up in northern Mexico, in a small border town across Douglas Arizona (Agua Prieta, Sonora), and I was naïve in a way that you can’t be naïve anymore, because of the internet and stuff. My passion for design arrived heavily influenced by my piano teacher, also an Architect: Eduardo Corella, I remember showing up for my piano class and going through my lessons while he sat next to a big drawing desk creating amazing things. The time when and left for Architectural School and then to take my first job, I didn’t know anything – I was just an unformed piece of soft clay. Worked in the architectural field for 20 years until I decided to stick exclusively to graphic arts. After working with several companies, I landed with SkincareRx where I met Jessica Shurtz, who is currently the CEO of GLOWBIOTICS, and absorbed every instruction as working with her in marketing. She was the exact opposite of me: she was straightforward, precise, she had a clear vision of targets, magnetic, knew everyone, knew everything. To sort of sit at the very back of that office, trying to not get fired, just trying to keep my head low, just doing whatever menial tasks were assigned to me, but absorbing everything like a sponge changed my life, from the first day on that job. That was a job I intended to stay in for 18 months, and I stayed there for more than that.

To this day, I am grateful to still be working with GLOWBIOTICS as a graphic consultant as well.

The brand Eleven Eleven Skin Alchemy couldn’t be possible without the constant support, cheers, and constructive thoughts of my wife Kate Fimbres. Being an artist is sort of a solitary activity. You spend a lot of time trapped in your own head, and you begin by thinking that your job is to convince other people of the rightness of your vision and can easily get lost in there… Kate nudges me, grounds me, and keeps me afloat!
