Check Out Lindsey Magee’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Magee.

Hi Lindsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ollie Vaughns is a cafe and bakery in the Coronado Historic Neighborhood in downtown Phoenix. We offer an award-winning breakfast as well as a great selection of sandwiches, salads, treats, coffee and teas. I got started in the food industry working as a baker at Lux coffee bar and continued to grow my resume at other AZ favorites such as St. Francis and Pizzicleta. For a while, I also ran a weekly pop-up brunch event in my backyard called Monkey C.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
2020 was a huge challenge for most people. When Covid first hit, I was really anxious about food supply for my family and my business. In March of 2020, I partnered with a local farmer and other artisans to offer a weekly basket of groceries, farm veggies, and other provisions that could be pre-ordered and picked up safely in our back alleyway. In hindsight, we’ve seen a lot of businesses do innovative moves through the pandemic, but I had no model and I’m very proud that I was able to offer food and comfort to my community.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Aside from running a restaurant and being a mom of two kids, my real passion is baking. At Ollie Vaughn’s we make all our treats from scratch, including our hand-laminated croissants. The croissants are the darling of our menu and we make them into almond croissants, ham and gruyere stuffed croissants, cinnamon rolls, apple Danish pastries and our number one seller, the breakfast sandwich.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’ve always been pretty outgoing, talkative, athletic and definitely a risk taker. I played all types of sports and I’ve tried every activity under the sun: soccer, basketball, art, music, theater, roller derby, hockey. I’ve played in a band and I used to work in film and television. I’ve worked in the food industry since I was 15. I started out working in a smoothie shop.
