Check Out Kaylie Miller’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylie Miller.

Hi Kaylie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My photography journey began back in 2017 when I started offering photo sessions to friends and family in my hometown. While also having a full-time job and being in university at that time, I didn’t think too much about it, but absolutely loved being behind the camera and meeting so many amazing people throughout the process. In 2019 I got to photograph my first elopement ever and instantly fell in love with that niche of photography… I mean I became obsessed! Learning so much about the wedding industry and getting to perfect my craft became my passion and I knew instantly this is what I wanted to do: help brides and grooms feel confident and supported on their wedding day. I always knew I wanted to work towards a creative career and when this opportunity was presented to me you bet, I jumped right on it!

In 2020 I really began to niche down and retarget my audience to the southwest, building a personable brand was always my number 1 goal with my business no matter what! The desert, sunsets, mountains, and everything in between are so beautiful to me and I have always loved being in nature so I knew I wanted to work more with couples who loved expressing their adventurous side like I do. In 2021 I officially moved across the country to Arizona to continue growing my brand and helping more and more couples carry out their dream wedding day no matter how they want to celebrate! I have met so many amazing people, I truly can’t believe I am at where I am today. All throughout my entire journey, glorifying Jesus and creating an encouraging environment have been my top priorities!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Oh absolutely not (as I laugh out loud to myself)! Building a business has been one of the most tedious, time-consuming, and emotional things I have ever done. BUT throughout the entire process, it has taught me patience, determination, and strengthened my love for what I do. Building my brand has helped me to appreciate the present moment so much more. I am a firm believer in “if it’s not mine yet, then God is trying to teach me something first” and learning to navigate through the challenges and setbacks have strengthened me mentally. I think there are WAYYYY more positives than negatives to starting my business and I am so freaking thankful to everyone who has supported me so far. Learning to build a strong financial system, client workflow, and managing a work/personal life have been the toughest challenges, but have been strong foundations that I had to build to get to where I am right now.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Oh boy buckle up for this one, I am BIG on telling all the little details! I am a wedding and elopement photographer based in Phoenix, Arizona but serve couples all throughout Arizona, Utah, California, Colorado, and beyond! I specialize in adventure elopements and intimate weddings, and of course bold and rad couples! I spent the last year really trying to hone in on attracting my ideal clients so we can truly get that authentic & personable connection. Let’s be honest, no one likes a random girl sticking a camera in their face. I like to keep my style of work very natural looking in the colors but expressing all the intimate and goofy things about my clients. I am BIG on making sure we capture who you really are, and not just some Pinterest inspiration you want to be. I always tell my brides and grooms that their decorations don’t have to be fancy, screw needing your dress to be flawlessly spread out and your hair to be perfectly pushed back behind your face, express those in-between feelings and let’s capture your purest form of love! I am super proud of that and being able to make sure every couple I work with knows that they are 100% supported by me throughout their entire experience. I am a BIG people person and grew up in Charleston, SC where hospitality is everything, and showcasing that in my work and experience is so crazy important to me! What sets me apart from other photographers is my personality. You always hear creatives say they want to be your wedding bestie, but I can’t even count on my hands the amount of clients that have become my lifelong friends. Yeah, I work with my couples throughout their wedding planning journey, but no matter what I make sure they all know they are truly loved by me and I want the best for them in their life beyond just their wedding day. I do take my business very seriously, but also take life as it is and I have learned to not take every little thing in life too seriously. In my book, the only rules are to treat people kindly and to constantly be laughing while finding joy in everything.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Oh gosh, growing up I was a LOT to handle. I was always creating something whether it was music, art, a new way to do math (not kidding about that), or making my own version of Fear Factor in my backyard with crazy obstacle courses. I never was the kid that wanted to sit around all day and watch movies, I legit wanted my life to be like Phineas and Ferb’s. In elementary school, I was always super extroverted and loved hanging out with my friends. I never liked grade school and preferred learning about my own passions instead such as fashion, art, and cooking. In high school I had a hard time resonating with kids at my school, I never joined the party crowd or got into homecoming or anything like that. I always was so eager to leave school so I could take photos, making little YouTube videos, and plan future trips I would take one day. Thinking back on it, I never really “blended in” with kids my age, I was always trying to think of my next big adventure.
