Check Out Christen Wolfe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christen Wolfe.

Hi Christen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my professional art career selling paintings and drawings at the first Friday art walk in Phoenix in the early 2000s. After moving to Washington, I was offered a tattoo apprenticeship, which I completed and began tattooing professionally in 2010 in Seattle, WA. After building a local client base, I opened my first shop in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, then expanded to Tacoma, WA, in 2019. I am moving back to Arizona and will expand my business by opening a new shop in Gilbert, AZ, in 2023.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
It hasn’t always been smooth, especially in the last couple of years. In 2020 Washington state mandated closures for all “non-essential” businesses, and I could not work or open my shops for over 3 months, which was financially and emotionally challenging. But it also forced me to slow down and think about what is important, which led me to the decision to move back to my home state of Arizona.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have always practiced art in one form or another, but I found my stride when I began tattooing. I specialize in fine-line blackwork tattoos focusing on natural elements, plants, and animals with a hint of mysticism. I truly enjoy collaborating with my clients to make their visions come to life and to create a tattoo that will stand the test of time. I have also recently found the time to start creating artwork outside of tattooing again and am excited to create a line of fine art prints, clothing, and merchandise.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
My favorite thing about Phoenix, and Arizona in general, is the ease of living, eating amazing food on a warm patio, the wide availability of just about anything you could want, and the open, friendly nature of the folks there. It is something I took for granted and missed when I left. Is it too generic to say my least favorite thing in the summer heat?
