Today we’d like to introduce you to Macy Dorf.
Macy, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have been a professional potter for over 50 years, also own Artists ON Santa Fe gallery and studios. The building has 29 artists renting studios. I really don’t consider myself unique, but fortunate to be able to have a life that has allowed me to make a living making ceramics.
I have mostly focused on function pottery and at the same time be able to experiment with large sculptural clay works that mostly about the area around Moab, Utah. The works are everything from square dinnerware to handmade sinks. The sculptural is an exploration of surface and form. These works can be in numerous galleries around Denver and New Mexico.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
People like to use my functional works. They add an additional level to the pleasure of using handmade ceramics in their daily life. The sculptural works make their environment more pleasing in looking at with the addition of art in their lives
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Having a good coffee mug that feels good in your hand early in the morning may take away some of the bull**** that we hear every day.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
There are numerous galleries in Colorado and New Mexico.
