Today we’d like to introduce you to Kazumi Ross.
Kazumi, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
To be honest, I struggled a little bit with this, I’ve never been so candid but here goes.
I have been wanting to take this project on and made it my New Year’s resolution to do so. I’m an ER nurse here in the Valley. I’ve always loved the idea that a single image can speak 1000 words.
To be completely honest, I never grew up wanting to be a photographer, but then again I never grew up wanting to be a nurse. I will say, I love doing both equally & unquestionably. I feel life leads you down certain paths and this is where I need to be.
Photography for me is placing my view of life, love, and happiness in still images. It’s the process of creating, of watching my pictures take shape. It’s something that you can artistically make, a non-verbal form of self-expression. Capturing that sweet moment that you might sometimes never get back.
Frightening at times putting your self out there that is, I would have greater disappointment not to have attempted following a passion than to have failed while attempting to succeed. So here I go on my voyage of untracked territory, however scary as it may be.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a greater Phoenix Area Outdoor Photographer based out of Surprise, AZ. I travel throughout the valley and Arizona.
I’m an eclectic person so naturally an eclectic photographer. There’s an unspoken rule of professional photography which is to find your niche or style of photography and stick to it. But I like to do whatever feels right. So whether it’s a BoHo, Vintage, Clean, Whimsical vibe or Black & White, Children’s, Night, Landscape, Nature or Street Photography I do it all because I enjoy it all. There’s just so much beauty in it all. However, one of my favorite types of sessions is photographing children; their images portray a sense of innocence.
I love being outdoors. There’s something so peaceful that you find in nature that you can’t seem to find anywhere else and so I’ve gravitated to Outdoor Photography. I currently only offer outdoor sessions but who knows if that will change in the future, I do like changing things up.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Preserving individuality. Stick with what you like. Make it an extension of who you are. The arts are a powerful thing.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Having just recently begun I started my Ophelialivsphotography Instagram and Facebook account so people can follow and view my work. Actually, it wasn’t until I was contacted by Voyage Phoenix that I built & published my website. You guys gave me that last little push that I needed. So thank you Voyage Phoenix!
I’ve started reaching out to local non-profit organizations to get my name out into the community.
In the future, I plan to set up at farmers markets & hopefully one day be a part of First Fridays and the art scene here in Phoenix. The best way you can support me is to follow me on either social media account and hit the share button. Social media has now become the staple of exposure and increases your business traffic.
